    3. Debby I usually will want some specifics from a person before I give out Weatherwax information. I usually always refer them to !. USGENWEB/Ancestry.com(free area) at first. If the request is from a distant Weatherwax relative I always will give everything I have on their line of descent, but not all lines. Since were dealing with 19 siblings in the main family it can be overwhelming at first. I also make it clear that I will share with family information, but want acopy of what they have to add to my database to share with others. But since I know you handle one of my favorite sitesRENSSELAER Co. your problem is slightly different. The lady you refer to is evidently new to the WEB and possibly Genealogy. She doesn't understand that not everything or everyone is now online, or has been recorded in print media. I suggest that you post a disclaimer similar to other sites saying in effect I'd like to help BUT all I know is whats already on this site, and you don't have time to do research for individuals. I have been in the NARA Pittsfield site and watched people come in and expect the volunteers to immediatly sit down and do their family history for them, it pains me to hear a full grown adult whine oh this will take me forever!. The policy there is to firmly explain that it up to the individual to do the searching, the staff only provides instruction and assistance. As too what they want, I have had as many as 8/9 Emails back and forth between myself and someone requesting information, before I could figure out what they were asking . Most dont realize that you need to be very specific and include as much info as possible. All of my 19 sibling ancestors named all of their children after their siblings, so if someone asks me about Andeas Weatherwax I need a birth date, the father b:1700, had a son b:1739, and that sons siblings all had sons named Andreas, so if you cant give me something peculiar to who your looking for I cant anwer the qeustion. And I don't even run a site such as you, just subscribe to rootsweb lists etc. Hope these ideas help. 1. [NYCLINTO-L] Arthur's from NY & MA
    2. SLWillig
    3. Hi, All... Ran across another line of ARTHUR's in Clinton & Lewis Counties, NY. RICHARD and HANNAH (BRADFORD) ARTHUR lived in Westfield, MA, as of 1784 at least. They had the following sons, who moved to Clinton County, NY: RUSSELL, ELISHA (b. abt. 1784), and JOSEPH, (b. abt. 1786). According to the little info. I have, these three sons traveled with "their mother's family" from their home in Westfield, MA, to northern NY, where they settled in Martinsburg, Lewis County. The Arthur family from which I'm descended also "removed" to northern NY. Brothers Joshua Barber, Augustine, Thomas and Reuben plus two of their sisters, moved to Clinton Co. from Suffolk County, NY. Trying to find out if it is only coincidence that two apparently different Arthur families settled in the same area of northern NY. It would be great to know where "my" Arthur's came from prior to settling in Suffolk County on Long Island in the mid to late 1600's. There is some indication that they may have lived in MA first and who knows - they may have been related to the Westfield, MA, Arthur's. Is there any connection between the ARTHUR family of Richard and Hannah Arthur of Westfield, MA, and the family of JOSHUA and CHARITY HUBBARD ARTHUR of Long Island? Thanks so much. 3. Hi Andree, When you mention "Marriage Book", are you speaking of a book that covers all of Clinton County or just Ellenburg?????? I am trying to find such a book for Clinton County as I have relatives from Plattsburgh, Morrisonville, Clintonville; just about every town in the county. How would I go about buying such a book???? I am down in Florida and cannot exactly get to Plattsburgh very easy. I checked the IGI films and they are all Temple Records not to be copied. That does not help with my family, either. Thank-you for your time. 1. [NYCLINTO-L] Reynolds of Chazy- please help
    2. Please, please, please! Allen Ira Reynolds (Iry as he was called) was born in Chazy in April/1839. We have not been able to find any record of him. Is there anyone on the list that could possibly find any recording of his either being born or living in Clinton Co? I would be so happy to find him! He was my ggrrandfather and he has almost become an obsession for finding him. As a young man, he moved to Oregon. There are stories in the family that he might have had brothers with the names of Edwin and Henry. But we do not know for sure. We can't find any records of him in New York at all! Could someone please help me? I would be forever grateful!!! Thank you! Dena

    3. One has to realize that there will ALWAYS BE NEWBIES; policies should be stated often. It would do well for "professionals" that a lot of patience need be exercised towards us kids. I find it unfortunate that Wayne appears to be one of those who is afraid to give out his precious information. Why put yourself out here in the first place; stay in your dark musky closet and hold on to those names. for what good it will do. He is not alone. found it quite distressing that on one forum, even a person who I found out later whose gggrandfather and mine were brothers, only refers me to the "Town Clerk" has complete records or buy the $70.00 historical book. 1) That town clerk is at the other end of the country from me. It's often said that genealogy ain't cheap. True. Some folks are not in this for a hobby; they sincerely feel a great desire to connect with family. Just try to imagine what it feels like to be an orphan. BTW: I recently found out the FHC has ALL THE VITAL RECORDS of this town. So, am able to travel 40 miles to view them. Hopefully that in spite of my fatiguing health conditions that once I jot down all this data, it is correct, as I INTEND TO POST IT PUBLICLY. On the flip side on one name list, folks help each other out regardless of direct lineage. I have had folks not only forward things they think might help me find my ancestors, but go out of their way to look for something.I have not asked for this. But then it works both ways. Oh, I'll probably be banned from this list for voicing my opinion ,but what the hay.... Harriet Chase

    2. Hi Sally, Ellenburg is in Clinton County, NY. This county is in the very upper right hand corner of the state and borders on the province of Quebec. Ellenburg is west of Lake Champlain on highway 11 at the very top of the state. In the marriage book I see one Theophile Dame married Julie Tremblay on Sept. 12, 1853, witnesses were Pierre Gladu and Felix Co...... Regards, Andree

    2. Jake Sartwell
    3. I'm still trying to put together my SARTWELL My gr uncle Jason SARTWELL, born 1877 in Bedford Que, Canada was reported to be in St. Albans, VT as late as 1936. Before that he was in West Lebanon, NH. I have been to Concord NH to see if he died there without success. I have to all of the towns in that area also without success. I live only eight miles from St. Albans, VT and have checked that out thoroughly. I also went to our state archives at Middlesex, VT and they haven't any death records either. I live right next to the NY line and have looked there, but not knowing the system I can't ascertain whether Jason died there. Has anyone heard of Jason Leon SARTWELL? I really would like to find the answer to this. I'm also trying to find my gr grandfather's, Joseph SARTWELL, born 1828, final resting place. He was last reported in Swanton VT. According to his son's marriage certificate he was living in Swanton when he died at age 76. No record of Joseph's death either. I have full access to Swanton Town Clerks office. I can't find anything on Joseph. I know he was in Swanton in 1860 according to the federal census. Any help on either of these would be greatly appreciated.

    1. [NYCLINTO-L] Burial Transit Permit
    2. Wayne E. Weatherwax
    3. I believe this is a necessary document when a person dies in one country,or state, and is going to be buried in another state. I know that when my Father died in Fla.,in 1998;even thougth the remains were cremated we had to get one to bury his urn in Mass. I believe there is also a old set of health regulations involved from back when communicable diseases could be spread by moving bodies from state to state etc.As in everthing in life from the moment of birth to death someone always wants legal documentation. I guess it also prevents someone burying someone who was not leagally declared dead, or possibly murdered. I know that when I forgot to leave the document at the gravesite, they wouldn't interr the remains without the document in hand, another legal hassle. Wayne

    1. [NYCLINTO-L] Burial permits
    2. Thanks to all who gave me suggestions as to the circumstances under which a Burial Transit Permit is necessary. I know that it was necessary to take both of my parents cremains from lower Michigan to the Upper Peninsula for burial (1990 and 1993). The reason I ask is because I have Death Certificates for 2 of my great grandparents, but have no idea where they are buried, and wonder if trying to find BTPs would be of help. After the remains reach the cemetery, where would the Burial Permits be kept? With the Cemetery Records? With the Funeral Home? With the state or county? Thanks for any more help. I know the cemetery where other family members are buried; there also is a lovely marker with the family name, but no given names; and the cemetery records do not list my gg gparents as being buried there, although Thomas' obituary indicates that he is buried there. I thought finding a BTP might shed some light on the cemetery to which they had been taken. Alice in Arizona
