Dear Sue: Sounds like a good idea to me. I sent off requests in December and I'm still waiting. I'll let you know when I receive a response. Best wishes and thanks for your hard work. Hello, Can anyone help me verify that there was such a person as Martha BOUSLEY b. about 1845 in Black Brook, Clinton County? She was supposedly the daughter of Georges MALBOEUF dit BEAUSOLEIL and Marguerite CORDIER dit BELHUMEUR. She married Theophile WILLET abt 1868/ Although I have found marriage records for Martha's siblings at St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Keeseville, I have not been able to locate anything about Martha. Thanks to anyone who can help out. Barb in beautiful Hawaii

Hi, Sarah, If it helps any, I grew up with a Brunner round about 40+ years ago in Plattsburgh. You might try to locate records for the Children's Home in Plattsburgh - not sure just where those records might be located. I just pulled out an OLD phone book that lists their office at 14 Bailey Avenue. Not sure if that is still accurate. The listing was under Children's Home of Northern New York and the phone was (518) 563-1160. You could either try it or check switchboard.com for them to see if that is still right. Hope this helps. -- Candy_B [email protected] Researching Bennett, Cooper, Vanderveer, Woolley & related families in NJ Researching O'Brien, Brown, Boyle, Cavanaugh, Noonan, Fitzgerald, Spellman, Messier (Macey), LaCroix (Cross), Blais (Blair), Durand, Simonneau, Chabbot (Jabbot, Jabaut), Boucher, Sharron and related families in NY, New England and Quebec

Hi List, I am sending this information to several lists so if you receive this message more than once, I am sorry. I just received from NARA a message for the military records request for Wyman RICHARDSON who served during the Revolutionary War. This is the message they sent along with a long list of state addresses to write to. "A search was made but the file you requested above was not found. It should be noted that some soldiers served in State militia units which were never mustered into the service of the Continental, Federal, or Confederate Governments. Records of such State service, if available, are in State custody. You may be able to obtain information about the soldier in whom you are interested by writing to the address check above." The states listed range from Alabama to Wyoming. If you have had trouble getting any military document from Revolution through the Civil War, I am have an address for that state for you to write to. Hi Susan, I have been thinking about you and finding the Roberts name...I can't remember where I read this but I thought Roberts was McRoberts at one time and that this name was around Clinton County. Does anyone on the list remember hearing the surname HUGHTO or BRUNNER from the Plattsburgh area? I'm still searching for the Orphanage my grandfather, CLARENCE BRUNNER b. Dec. 14, 1899, was placed in at age appx. 3 yrs. (1902?). He told me he was not adopted, but placed in several foster homes. I know his mother was alive and I believe his father was also. He ended up running away out west. Joined Army in CO. in 1916 at age 16-17, but he used the name CLARENCE HUGHTO. To this day we don't know where HUGHTO came from. Hoping for some help. Don't know where Clarence was born, but think it was somewhere in NYS. Thanks, Sarah
Hi Jane, I have not seen that book at all. I will have to check out the special bookstores on-line and E-bay for this book. I know that after the original town of Plattsburgh was laid out, those that purchased the land laid out so many 100 acres "plots" to be sold to get the town established. Peter Roberts was one of those individuals who purchased a "plot". He also owned a blacksmith shop down by the lake in old downtown Plattsburgh. I do know that during one of the big fires of Plattsburgh, his shop was burned but I believe he had it rebuilt. I got all this information from HISTORY OF CLINTON AND FRANKLIN COUNTIES, NY 1880 which I purchased from E-bay. Unfortunately, even though there is a lot of history, it does not show any lineage between the different Roberts names or any of their spouses and children. Thanks for the interesting information and I think that would make for an interesting addition to their information I have written in FTM. I love to make these people come alive; not just a name with a bunch of statistics. :-D You have a nice day. I guess I will either have to write to the courts in Plattsburgh or the Plattsburgh Library for any information on wills. I would love to find something. I do not think that either he or his wife Jane died intestate. I am so sorry. I missed this discussion. Had to sign off for a full week of Northern company. Groan. Would some kind person please tell me what this petition is about? Thank you so much! Jan
Hi Sue I have not seen a will for either Peter of Jane. Have you seen the book "Pioneer Homes of Clinton County 1790 - 1820" text and pictures by Allen S. Everest? In the book is #119, the Turner-Roberts homestead, Salmon River Road. It is south west of Plattsburgh near Schuyler Falls. The original owner was Ezra Turner (1763 - 1851). Date: 1812. Mr. Turner owned the home until 1832. Peter J. Roberts until 1865, then Lyman Thompson. The current owner in 1971 is/was Stanley Newell. I drove by the house in July of 1997. It is still inhabited but looks to be in need of repair. #120 The Roberts - Lynch farm on the Military Turnpike Extension. Original owner: Benjamin Roberts, (brother of Lt. Peter). Date: c. 1820. Benjamin, one of 5 brothers who were veterans of the Revolution, serrled here in 1798 and built this stone and brick house. Richard Lynch bought the farm in the 1830's and it remained in his family for many years. The present owner as of 1971 is Abel Toxapeus. I drove by this house too. It is inhabited and seems to be very well cared for. The book is available for viewing at the library in Plattsburgh. Jane
Hi List, Has anyone ever found a probate or will of Peter Roberts of VT/Plattsburgh, NY or his wife, Jane Baker Roberts? I have the will of Joseph Roberts but I have never seen anything on Peter or Jane at Sampubco on their wills. I would imagine that there was at least a will for Peter as he had quite a bit of land in Plattsburgh, at least 100 acres. Thanks for your input and suggestions. Sue [email protected]
