Hello List, This is my first posting here. I've lost my Grandmother and I hope someone here can help me locate her. Of all my relatives, she is proving the most wily! She always lied about her age (2nd hubbie was 2 yrs. younger than her oldest child!) and refused to use her real name. She swore she was born in Buffalo but Buffalo has never heard of her. Her father was the black sheep of his family and after leaving Yorkshire, he moved his family all over North America. The one hint I have found is that her grandmother, Carrie (Caroline) BURNISTON age 52 entered the U.S. through Ellis Island on Nov. 29, 1902 accompanied by her granddaughters Carrie age 5 and Gladys age 3. Her destination was listed as Plattsburgh. She was going to the home of her son-in-law A. (Arthur) WOOD & wife Beatrice who worked as a linesman for the Postal Telegraph & Cable Co.- at least I think that's what it says. It's very hard to read. Carrie and Gladys were my Grandmother's older sisters. Family legend has it that Gladys died somewhere at a very young age (maybe Plattsburgh?) and my Grandmother took her name as her own as she hated her real name - which was Minnie Gabriel WOOD. Some family papers show my Grandmother's birth date as Sept. 27, 1904. Can anyone tell me if the Postal Telegraph & Cable Co. was a real company and if there are any employee records? Also, are there any indexes of the 1900 census for Plattsburgh - although I doubt they would have been there in 1900 considering the age of their daughter Gladys. Any help would be most appreciated! Sincerely, Carol Coquitlam, B.C. Canada
Melinda, Did you get me confused with someone else? I am not researching any Andrews but would gladly accept any info on Gareau, Benoit/Benway, Lovett, Pratt, Crossett, Wheeler or Sargeant. ;-) Jackie
Melinda, >From the email traffice it sounds like you have access to the 1900 census index. If so, could you please look up: John Lawrence McCarrell (or McCarroll), age 27 or any other people with that last name (I don't think there is many!). I searched page by many pages in ancestry.com but no luck. Thanks for your help. Debbie McCarrell
Does anyone have further info about John Vail, who died Oct.14,1889 and buried in Shute's Cemetery at Champlain? He was on the 1860 census, living at Champlain. His birth date was shown as January 25,1833. His wife, Nellie, was also buried there. I am especially interested in learning where he was born. Thanks for any help. Harriet

Hi there, I know there is an email address somewhere for St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Does anyone have that handy, but any chance? Thanks a lot! Christine (Coon) Barron
They might, the records I've obtained sometimes have dit names listed, or place of origin, most importantly the witnesses and their relationship to the bride and groom. The early records are in french and later ones are in latin, I think. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jp55" <jp55@wt.net> To: <NYCLINTO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 27, 2002 10:46 PM Subject: Re: [NYCLINTO] Marriage > Thanks so much for the information. Good Morning Andree. Would you kindly look up a marriage for: George Jennings to Eliza Ann Davidson, daughter of Henry and Margaret Davidson. First child of George and Eliza was born in 1853 in Clinton Co. NY. I believe Saranac area. So I estimate the wedding to be btween 1850 and 1853, in or near Saranac, Clinton County, New York. Any help is gratefully appreciated. Thanks for your time. Jan in Florida
Would anyone know if there's a cemetery associated wtih St. Pierre in Plattsburg and if so, I am looking for the burial of Virginie Deslauriers ANDREWS, husband William and any children. Thanks Jackie
If anyone has access to 1900 census, may I get a lookup for William ANDREWS in Plattsburg. His wife, Virginie, died in the 1890's I believe, so would like to know if they had any children. Thanks. Jackie
Thanks very much, Phil. How strange that in a R.Catholic church no parents were listed for either. Do you think the church would have additional info. not in Pontbriand.? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cochran, Phil" <pcochran@simonds.cc> To: <NYCLINTO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 27, 2002 7:07 AM Subject: RE: [NYCLINTO] Marriage > I checked the Marriages of Clinton County 1830-1880 by Benoit Pontbriand > > I did not find a George but did find following: > > Deslauriers, Virginie (no parents) married at St. Pierre in Plattsburg > on 21-3-1880 to Andrews, William (no parents) and no witnesses. > > That was the only one that came close. > > Phil > > -----Original Message----- > From: jp55 [mailto:jp55@wt.net] > Sent: Wednesday, June 26, 2002 10:44 PM > To: NYCLINTO-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [NYCLINTO] Marriage > > Thanks to all of you who have responded to my question about a Clinton > Co. > marriage. Thanks so much for the information. That must be my gal. How strange that no parents are listed for either --I thought Catholic church records always recorded those. Hi Ann, I'm so thrilled for you, glad to be of help. Wish I could find the marriage for Eugene but the marriage book only goes to 1880. Best regards, Andree
Andree: This sure looks like this might be the right ones. My in-laws marriage liscense says that his parents were born in Keeseville NY. and the headstone says Eugene was born 1862 and the names of the other children are the same as my father-in-laws siblings. Can't remember what the years are of the books you have but Eugene married Angeline M. Martin probably around 1883-84. She was supposedly born in Keeseville also. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the trouble you have gone to for me. Thank you so much. I have been trying to find this family since my husband died so that our children could know more about their ancesters. So thank you so much for this. Ann B.
