    3. Breaking out for a moment to go down memory lane - This past weekend folks were mowing lawns with grass 4 to 6 inches high. The dogwood trees, lilacs are all in bloom. Today we have rather extensive snow flurries! It is a blustery day. This is the latest I've ever seen snow here. On the front end of winter, my grandfather told us many years ago that most years snow fell before his birthday, October 19th. I'm wondering two things - - the latest snow has fallen in central New York - in your lifetime - how this winter compares snow wise to previous years Ok, one more thing for those older members, are folks today wimps compared to what you had to go through dealing with the snowy weather? ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell tstowell@chattanooga.net

    3. Tim, Well, it was in western, not central, New York but I remember one time probably in the early 'fities, when we had a few flakes in the air in Batavia on May 1st. But don't worry; morning before last Al Roker assured us there would definately not be any snow after July 4th this year. Don't tell him about 1816. 3. Well, I don't remember what year it was, but I certainly know that it was April. (early 80's, I think) I lived in Homer and worked in Syracuse.  We had a blizard.  The boss let us out early but we still had a hard time getting home.  They closed 81.   I also remember as a teenager.......walking on the top of the snow banks and touching the telephone wires.  My dad went on snow shoes to bring my uncle and his family off of Gee Hill.     --- On Tue, 4/7/09, David Minor <dminor@eznet.net> wrote: From: David Minor <dminor@eznet.net> Subject: Re: [NYCORTLA] Spring? 3. Hi Tim, I have to grin when I hear this - memory lane....., who would've thought they would be my memories <sigh> Yes, windy blustery day, snow has stayed on the ground most of the day today YUK, and it makes me hate being in NY especially since I have to go get my daughters girl scout troop in a little while and walk them to the church. The latest that I remember snow fall - memorial weekend in May, but I cannot tell you the year, and yes it was in my lifetime. This winter we got more snow than last year and last year we got more than in the year before, but not more than what we used to get when I was a kid. It seems as though we always had snow on the ground when I was a kid and now it comes and goes. I do remember one time driving with my dad to Utica - (I grew up in Bainbridge) and being amazed at the amount of snow there vs what we had, it was amazing, I think they had twice as much. This was in the 70 s. I'm going to answer your last question even though I'm not that old - do I think that the people today are wimps - yes. But in a way I can probably count myself as one of them. When we don't have as much snow for awhile you don't get used to driving in it, so you get wimpy about it. Same thing goes for shoveling etc. As for the cold, yes, I'm a wimp, I am getting older and I'm getting to the point where I would like to move where it's warmer more often Rene' -------Original Message------- From: Tim Stowell Date: 4/7/2009 12:53:08 PM To: nychenan@rootsweb.com; nycortla@rootsweb.com; nymadiso@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYCHENAN] Spring?
