Hi! I'm looking for a friend's ancestress. She says she was from Mexico, but came to New York and wed James R. TEFFT. Her name had been Adela Wheeler. She died in childbirth August 5th 1917. Does any one of you happen to have access to her mortuary notice or whatever the terminology is, that might say just something about her? Believe it or not, I'm going to try to find info about her in Mexico. Fat chance, right? Thanks for any tips, leads, assists! (BTW, James was of Oxford, NY) Vince Summers -- http://www.ehow.com/members/ds_7b3c7914-50da-4602-ad9f-8e0007b16ff9.html http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/333797/vincent_summers.html
Look for her death certificate. If it gives a state, or city, in Mexico where she was born, then there is a good chance of finding a civil or church birth/baptism record. If the family came from Baja California, Mexico, then she may be descended from a famous William Walker who filibustered and took control of La Paz, BC, for three months in 1853 before the Mexican army drove him out. William was executed in 1860 in Honduras at age 36. -----Original Message----- From: nychenan-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nychenan-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Vincent E.
