My ancestor, Winfield Scott Cadwell is believed to hail from Norwich area. In 1850, a Lavina D. Cadwell (BD ~1797 in MA)is shown to reside there. In subsequent censes, a Lavina Stanton (BD ~1817 in MA: DD 16Oct1872) & her son, James H. Stanton (BD 1840)live w/ her. I have found record of a Lavinia Cadwell marrying a John Stanton on 26MAr1836. Their 1st son, George, was born 26Aug1837. I know an Orrin Cadwell resided there in 1840, but no add'l names were presented in that census. W. S. was born ~1822 in NY and later married a Mary Rathbon/bone/bun. My family has passed down that Mary was a Cherokee indian by blood. I have learned that Orrin served in the War of 1812, & was injured in combat @ the Battle of Lundy's Lane, Gen Winfield Scott, & received war pension for his service. I need to find if those I am aware of are tied to those I am not. I have followed James Stanton's census records through to 1910 in N! orwich. W.S. and Mary had 5 sons, Charles Homer, George Henry, Edwin J., James, and my ancestor, Winfield Scott, Jr. Any help getting us past this wall will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Judson E. Cadwell. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
