Armed with a death date (the closer you are to the exact date, the easier it will be for you) I have traveled to both the Norwich Library (Chenango County, NY) and the New York State Library in Albany, both of which have archive microfilm of the Norwich papers, and checked out the microfilm corresponding to the date range needed. Then it is just a matter of reading the papers until you find an obituary (if you are lucky). Very often it does not happen. It is unfortunate that these papers are not scanned and online like many others.
