Hi everyone, Went to the talk last night given by Sharon Donahe. First let me say that there is not going to be a book about this cemetery as I first thought. She is also not intending for this information to be put online. She is giving this information to the Bainbridge Historical Society and West Bainbridge Cemetery Association. Along with her transcription of the cemetery, she compiled obits and newspaper articles. She transcribed this cemetery by giving it groupings and plot numbers which is the proper way to do it. As we all know, many relatives are buried next to each other and when listed alphabetically we lose that, but as historians we learn not to be picky when gathering information. I digress....... What I learned is this, that from the list that is posted online that many unmarked graves have been identified - wonderful news - thank you Sharon. No, I do not know who they are. There were a couple of very interesting stories of murder one dating back to 1867. A Helen Searles who was married to Joseph Searles who did not make it back from the civil war hooked up with a bigamist. He married her after knowing her a couple of weeks, took her to Litchfield CT. There he most likely poisoned her after 4 months of marriage. After her death, no longer the bereaved widower he left for Utica NY where after 5 weeks married another lady after only knowing her for only 1 week. He was arrested and after 3 trials died in prison. I'm sorry I could not be of more help to you all. Rene'
Hi Rene, How do you get in touch with the Bainbridge Historical Society? Where is it located? Address and/or email? How do you get in touch with the West Bainbridge Cemetery Assn.? Address and/or email? There is a West Bainbridge Rural Cemetery Assn, PO Box 268, Greene, NY 13778. Is that the same cemetery?
