    1. Re: [NYCHENAN] Lots received from the People of the State of New York--Reuben...
    2. Hi Suzanne, I have a Reuben Smith but he would not be this Reuben. My Reuben lived in Middlefield, Otsego, NY and was in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 census for Middlefield. I don't know much about him other than he is the son of Aaron Smith and was born sometime around 1788 and died Jan. 23, 1846. I don't know his wifes name but think they had about 9 children. The only names I have for the children are William and George Fennimore. Does this sound like anyone you have come across while doing your research for your Reuben Smith? If so I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks so much!! We have a Reuben Smith in our family but ours is much too young to be this Reuben. This particular one is listed in the Co of Montgomery in the township of Clinton (??). and that I assume later became part of Chenango Co. This Lot 58 was approved by the commisions of the land office January 12 1789 and recorded Nov. 12 1885. In addition to Reuben Smith receiving land from New York, the following Smiths also received land: Melaneton Smith, Seth Smith, Israel Smith, and William S. Smith. Does anyone know anything about these people and why they could receive land from NY. Suzanne Smith Hardebeck **************New year...new news. Be the first to know what is making headlines.
