Author: egbert1902 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.chenango/1262.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm going to be making some phone calls to find out what's up with these cemeteries.The one I just recently went to,blackman cemetery,broke my heart.I can't believe the county could let this happen.I think the local historical societies[town] take care of some of them, but there's just to many of them. the "blackman cemetery" made me sick.I just couldn't believe it.I visited one a few months ago that I hadn't been to in a few years, just a little one with a few headstones and always taken care of by someone,and when i got there half the headstones were gone.I contacted the historical society and they were aware of it.its just so sad.I'm going to find out if just anyone can go and clean them up. I wish I lived closer because I'd be doing the same thing and trust me, I'm scared to death of spiders, snakes, etc., but if it were maintained on a regular basis, it wouldn't be so bad. I don't think the Blackman Cemetery on Hwy 12 is my families, but I know the Heady's Corner/Blackman Cemetery on Hwy 19 is my family, and all Blackman's buried there are my ancestors. It makes me sick that I'm in Kansas and can't even get there to see it, let alone actually take care of them.
