Neil, This William was born around 1881. He was the second husband of Lettie Maude Hurlburt Black. Of his children, I haven't researched his first marriage. Hi all. I have the following cd, which I am willing to do some lookups from. Revolutionary War Pensions Lists, Military Records. Contains images from 12 volumes of Revolutionary War pension records. Contains information on approximately 110,000 individuals. Some types of information that “may” be included is… Name and Rank, Regiment and description of service, Place of residence, Nature of wounds or disability, Date of death, Occasional reference to family members. Please send any requests for a lookup from this cd to me at HYPERLINK "mailto:scott1@digginbones.com"scott1@digginbones.com . Please be sure to put "Rev. War Pension Lists" in the subject line of your message. Please include the state they enlisted in and or filed in which may be the same state they died in. If you know a spouses name or birth date and or death date. Even if you are not certain that your ancestor served during the Rev. War, you may still feel free to ask for a lookup, as long as you know the person would have been of age to have served in the war. Scott Wolfe 1421 Hampton Ct. I recently attended a family reunion in Chenango County and obtained copies of documents from the late 1800s early 1900s that I hope to post from time to time. The first of these are two yearbook pages. One is marked 1923 and includes photographs and entries for Helen ALDRICH, Leland BENEDICT, Theodore BONNEY, Alice BOYDEN and Mina BURNS. The second page is undated (although I'm guessing it's 1922) and includes photographs and entries for Leona BURWELL, Ralph CUMBER, Gertrude JONES and Mary IVORY. If anyone is interested in copies of these pages, please let me know. Neil Searching in Chenango County for Boyden, Bruce, Casey, Coy, Champlin and Dolan
Tim: Thank you very much for this reminder. The first search on the New York USGenWeb site for Lorenzo Sutton brought me a wealth of info, including Civil War letters. The names mentioned are those I have been trying to find in Madison County for years. Here are some of the names: Sutton, Catherine (Rowe)and Lorenzo; Albro, Nettie (Sutton); Bailey, James and John; Rowe, Ransom. I have several old letters writen by some of these folks to each other. Again, thanks very much for pointing me in a new and rewarding direction. Hi Tim, I have a couple of brick walls I'll send to you directly. The brick-wall section will be a good addition to the websites. Congrats on going back to school! I did that later in life also, finished my BA and went 1/2 way through my masters. I totally enjoyed it, more than if I'd done it right out of high school. But the reason I'm writing is your comment about "stuff doesn't sink in quite well with me the first, second or third time of repeating it - but once it is in - it stays." As I understand it, that's par for the course. One of my professors told me that one time through the material, most students retain about 60%; that's why it needs to be repeated, either verbally, by reading, or studying for tests. So, sounds like you're par for the course :-) Pat (Rowe) Stone, Rochester, NY ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Stowell" <tstowell@chattanooga.net> To: <nychenan@rootsweb.com>; <nycortla@rootsweb.com>; <nymadiso@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 19, 2007 11:35 PM Subject: [NYCHENAN] personal bricks > Many folks have responded and for that I'm thankful. > > If you do choose to respond on the list, please try to come up with some > subject > line other than brickwall - put some personality behind the subject line > like > a surname. > > For those who've written me personally as requested - I do have your > submissions. > > Unfortunately, at least for me, I have to study in the minutes that remain > of > this evening for a test tomorrow which covers my mind with anxiousness, > while > I can reasonably say I know 1/2 the material without hitch - it is those > nagging > items that bother me. > > Some of this comes from understanding what the teacher is saying for stuff > doesn't > sink in quite well with me the first, second or third time of repeating it > - but > once it is in - it stays. > > I guess my mind just doesn't perk well. > > This weekend looks relatively free so I'll work on this after tomorrow's > test at > 800 AM! > > Tim > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NYCHENAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Over the years county fairs have expanded and contracted as citizens interest in such has waxed and waned. I read an article to my wife the other day wherein a local farm agent stated that he'd seen interest decline in showing farm animals by young people, some due to the fact that farms had disappearing in the county and probably because other things interest young folk. The article focused on showing prize pigs and how the young folk got their pig ready to show. Of course there was washing and trimming hair but the two items that caught my attention were the two young people one who used baby oil to make her pig's coat gleam and I suppose soft and the other who believed in a good old mayonnaise rub! Which brings me to my question regarding each county. I know that in times past, and I suppose it still happens is the very old Brookfield fair. What I don't know and am asking does it still run? If so, when and are farm animals still included? For Chenango and Cortland - when and where for your county fairs and the same question regarding livestock. Tim
Many folks have responded and for that I'm thankful. If you do choose to respond on the list, please try to come up with some subject line other than brickwall - put some personality behind the subject line like a surname. For those who've written me personally as requested - I do have your submissions. Unfortunately, at least for me, I have to study in the minutes that remain of this evening for a test tomorrow which covers my mind with anxiousness, while I can reasonably say I know 1/2 the material without hitch - it is those nagging items that bother me. Some of this comes from understanding what the teacher is saying for stuff doesn't sink in quite well with me the first, second or third time of repeating it - but once it is in - it stays. I guess my mind just doesn't perk well. This weekend looks relatively free so I'll work on this after tomorrow's test at 800 AM! Tim

Tim, Congratulations on your decision to go back to school. My daughter decided the same thing, having graduated from high school in 1975. She's taking one class at Broome Community College and another online. >From previous classes she's half way to a 2 year degree and then plans to transfer to Binghamton Univ. She said it was now or never. Her son began classes at BCC the same day. For him it was a struggle to get thru high school, having ADHD and Aspergers Syndrome. He won the physics award at graduation and is taking engineering science. Best wishes, Chris Gillette ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

She subsequently died in the Bimghamton Asylum in Oct 1892 and is buried in the North Norwich Cemetery. As far as I can determine, the couple had no children but I could be wrong. Her death certificate identifies no parents or maiden name and her marriage was too early to have been recorded on a death certificate. While these lists are primarily focused on the history and genealogy of the people who lived in these counties in times past, so too are the posters and non-posters in some semblance members of a family as we ask things of all, respond with answers and more questions - the interaction of a community. When a member loses a loved one and posts such information here or when a member themselves pass away, we share the grief. Some times we also share the joy of a brick wall broken down. As of this evening the lists have the following numbers of subscribers: Chenango - 222 Cortland - 175 Madison - 225 Some folks, such as myself, are on all three lists. While I do not have handy just how many unique addresses are represented on these lists, I believe that more than just the members here are touched in some way by these lists. Since my last update and also some time prior to that I've decided to go back to school for the first time in 15 years. Having been out of practice so long, it's been difficult to take this one class and work full-time. It is just one class meeting 4 times a week for about an hour - but then there is that old bugaboo homework. I'm two times plus the age of the teacher, four times plus the age of the other students. Still my interest of genealogy / history has not waned and I've been pondering another avenue, while running from one spinning plate to the next. To that end, I'd like to start 'Brick Wall' pages for each county. The queries need to be very simple - in other words not one's whole family tree - but one simple fact you are seeking, have been seeking for a long time. One of mine has been going now for 30 years. For example for me it would read something like this: Madison County - DeRuyter my name - my email address Seeking parents of Whitman WILCOX - b. bef. June 1803 NY d. ca. 1880, DeRuyter. m. bef. 1840 - Phebe THOMPSON. ----------------------------------------------------------- If you send me one that is verbose, I'll ask you to trim it. If you want to have such included on a page, please send to me with the subject line - Brick Wall - whatever county. Once I have a few for a county I'll start posting them and give you folks a URL.
