    3. do you have a date in 1927. The Norwich paper might have the obituary listed if you already haven't tried there. the Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, N.Y has a local History room with the old Norwich papers on film that can be researched. It would be much easier to find if you have even a month of death.

    2. Michael, In the Dec 2007 issue of "FAMILY CHRONICLE", on page 48, there is an honorable mention portion in which readers submit their favorite various websites to the magazine - this one may help researchers with locating their German ancestors in NYS. And I quote the article: "My favorite genealogy database is put out by the German Genealogy Group in New York. This site: http://_www.germangenealogygroup.com_ (http://www.germangenealogygroup.com) provides the ability to hook up with other members and share information, as well as the opportunity to search their databases for naturalizations, church records, and yearbooks and vital records. Both of these record collections do no appear to be available elsewhere on the web. It is through this site I found a distant cousin, as well as numeroud death and marriage records for relatives. In addition, this site offers other links to groups of interest, as well as other data sources. This is a valuable site for anyone with relatives in New York". Donna I. 1. [NYCHENAN] Off-topic question
    2. Michael
    3. This question is not central New York related, but I know that there's a lot of expertise out there, so I thought that I would ask the question... I have received a bunch of documentation recently that narrows down the arrival of one of my German ancestors to the US between March - May, 1835. I need to know all of the possible ports of entry to review immigration lists for this timeframe to find out where they came through. I tried the port of New York a while back, but I couldn't narrow the timeframe down well enough, but now I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Michael

    3. At my wit's end trying to find the Smith Family in Guilford. 1790 Census of Guilford NY shows Nathanial Smith, along with his assumed wife and 5 children, one of which is further assumed to Lucy Smith. I am looking for any references to this family, to identify the family members, where they lived and where they may have moved to. I have searched the net for census refs with no luck, as I don't have an ancestry.com membership. If someone could be kind enough to find and send me an image of any census findings, or any other primary source findings for this family, I would be grateful. Kindest regards, and thank you in advance...Al The abridged note below was sent to me by another wonderful SKS and distant cousin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What we do know: Samuel b.1714 d.1782, son of John(II) and Hannah Nichols married 1740 Mary Lamb, b. 1712 d. 1749, dau of Jonathan Lamb. They had 3 children Samuel, Lucy and Mary. I am descended from Samuel. The Lambs are a very important family too. After Mary Lyndes (Lamb) died in 1749 Samuel married widow Dorcus Richardson Smith in 1750. Docus had Children with James Smith First husband:SMITH, JAMES, m. Dorcas Richardson, August 15,1727. Children: 1.James, 1728. d. after 1756. 2. Dorcas (Jr) Minor child in 1750 guardianship papers; m. Benjamin Ellis, August 1751 in Leicester. 3. Abigail, 1733; d. May 7, 1799; Marriage: 24 Apr 1752 Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts John Lamb, son of Jonathan Lamb; Birth: 5 Mar 1727, Framingham,Middlesex,MA. Death: 13 Jan 1796. 4.Israel, 1735. d. abt 1737 [Died before 1750, not mentioned in guardianship papers or division of Smith land.] 5.Nathaniel, b. September 16,1738; m. Lucy Lynde, dau of Samuel Lynde. 6. Deborah, Birth: 4 Jul 1743 Dedham, Norfolk Co, Mass; Death: 25 Aug 1816 Leicester, Worcester Co, Mass; Married: 24 Jun 1759 Elijah Howe. Born: 7 Dec 1730 Southboro, Middlesex, Ma; Died: 24 Feb 1808 Spencer, Worcester, Ma. Bought the homestead of Samuel & Dorcus Lynde 1769, recorded after Samuel's death about 1782. This blended family lived in Leicester and Malden. Here is where Dorcus's son Nathaniel Smith marries Samuel's dau. Lucy Lyndes. Marriage 1 Nathaniel SMITH b: 16 Sep 1738 in Leicester, Worcester, MA; * Married: 14 Aug 1762 Lucy Lyndes, in Leicester, Worcester, MA 2 1[This is intention date] I did find Nathaniel and Lucy living in Guilford VT/NY along with Lucy's brother Samuel and his wife Debra Perkins. 1772 Family in Guilford. Census of Guilford NY shows Nathanial Smith, wife and 5 children. As you can see Nathaniel and Lucy by 1772 have 5 children....names unknown, but they are living in America at this point. The is a troublesome time historically in Guilford. <>This may give you a jumping off point to research. 1. Try NY Census for Guilford after 1772 for the Smith family. 2. I also suggest you check the census in Plymouth VT from 1790-1800 for them to. If they disappear from census, then perhaps this is the time they relocated??? -- Al ...: Genealogist... 3. Sorry, but I don't have any info on your Orra. My family descends from Jefferson's brother Ebenezer. Ebenezer was born in Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY Mar 10, 1815 and died there June 30, 1884. He married Emily/Amelia Crandall, daughter of Azel Crandall and Philena Richards. I believe she was born in Deposit NY and she died May 23, 1890. They are buried in South Plymouth Cemetery. I also have Zadoc and Content w/ sons John C., Charles, and possibly Alson. Do you have any information about Content's ancestors? She was supposedly born in Canterbury, Windham, Connecticut May 15, 1781 and died in Plymouth September 6, 1848. But I have never been able to link her to anyone.
