    3. What is especially nice about these books is that there is a Location name index. These books are a treasure. It would behove your Library in Norwich to purchase copies, but I'm told they are difficult to find. I found Vol. 1 by accident and then a year later found Vol. 2. Vermont Families in 1791, Vol. 1 and 2 Published by the Genealogical Society of Vermont Special Publication Number 5 Deanna

If you have access to ancestry.com or some other pay service, for which I am unable to belong to, I am looking for a Lucy Smith [wd] of Brimfield, MA. Now this is not as easy as it seems. 1. Lucy [bc May 27, 1741] is really Lucy Lynde, d/o Samuel Lynde and Lucy Lamb of Leicester, MA [md. BUT!... Nathaniel and Lucy disappear from Leicester, MA, and turn up in the 1771/2 Census for Guilford, VT/NY 7. this is a tumultuous time when VT, MA, NH and NY are fighting over who is going to get that part of the wilderness as part of their state...so we have a conflict between two groups, the Yorkers and the Sufferers 8. the Smiths are in the middle of it 9. each side trying to outdo the other in records destruction...for eight years!!! 10. Polly was born c 1764, so she would have been about seven-eight years old at the time of the census 11. Polly marries Solomon back in Brimfield, in July 13, 1786, 14 years after the census and at the ae 22 years 12. where were Polly and her family during those "lost years" VT, NYS, ? 13. and, how is it that Polly is back in Brimfield...what has happened in the space of those 12 years??? 14. we also find a Lucy Smith, [wd] marrying a Thomas Ellinwood, back in Brimfield, Jun 03, 1784...just two years before her daughter...SAME TOWN, SAME CHURCH... there is an Ellenwood in Brattleborough, did she return to Brimfield with his party...as there are few Ellenwoods to be found anywhere... 15. I can find nothing to identify this Lucy Smith [wd] as the original Lucy Lynde that md Nathaniel Smith, so I must assume until then, that she is the one I am looking for 16. Lucy Smith [ae 43] md Thomas Ellinwood [bc Aug 01, 1728/mdc Jun 03, 1784; ae 56], and is his third wife 17. guess who his second wife was...and who just so happens to have connections back to the Thompsons, MARY THOMPSON, Solomon's aunt!!! [sounds like the Ozarks] 18. so Lucy is now, Solomon's aunt and his wife's mother! ...if my assumptions have merit... one big happy family 19. but what happened to Nathaniel, Polly's father, and Lucy's husband? ...his death cannot be found anywhere... 20. and since Polly and her mother are living in or near Brimfield, the other children must have been there as well...some probably already married, more than likely they are all married, but to whom? 21. assuming the children were ...using the LDS figures... .....born........ 1762/3, 1764/5 [Polly], 1766/7, 1768/9, 1770/1 females md....1782/3, 1784/5>1786], 1786/7, 1788/9, 1790/1 males md.......1786/7, 1788/9..........., 1790/1, 1792/3, 1794/5 22. are there children? fitting this year sequence? md, whose parents are Nathaniel Smith and Lucy {Lynde} Smith? 3. The Stowells data is in Vol. 2, p 110. It relates to Elias Hoisington (correct spelling), b. 1758 Farmington, Ct.,....married Mary Stowell, dau. of Jacob....and wife Beulah Livermore Stowell. B. Dedham Ma. If this is what you need, I'll send you a copy. This is all that is in Vol. 2 on Stowell. Perhaps the Hoisington family is of interest to you. There are no Stowell entries in Vol. 1 So let me know if you would like me to send a copy of this family of Hoisington. 3. Hi Tim. Nice to hear from you. Many persons on that particular mailing list for a Northern Co. in NY State, were aghast also. They emailed me privately off list. The administrator chastised me publicly through the mailing list, that listers complained and they were unsubscribing. You are the list adm. that we all need and love! Genealogists LOVE to talk and we're totally obsessed with Heritage-ours or anyone elses. I've been a Professional Genealogist for 31 years and rarely ever have had to defend myself for sharing. Thank you for emailing me. I appreciate that. The Vt. Families books are fascinating as the families are very detailed and many to NY State. I believe most long time members of the list will agree that I'm fairly lenient in watching over the list. As long as folks don't get too rowdy, I let them chat back and forth over the fence, around the water cooler, over coffee, around the pickle barrel and for those in those colder regions around the pot-bellied stove. Unless I get some rather strident complaints, most of the time I let such go. As we are all different, there are some list minders that are less tolerant. I try to treat folks like I'd like to be treated. That said, I have no qualms about the Vermont information as relates to Chenango county being discussed / posted here. Tim Stowell

    3. Hi Deanna, We were just confused, as each list is different, and we thought that you were referring to our specific list, not realizing that you were generalizing. I believe Elaine said it for us, we thank you very much for offering, she is right it is not very often we find someone so willing to help. If he tells you not to answer a question on the list then it is true. Otherwise please answer our questions on the list. Thank you ever so much for all your hard work. It is not often that people as dedicated as you share their resources and knowledge. Regards, Elaine ----- Original Message -----

    1. Re: [NYCHENAN] Vermont Family Book - Stafford line
    2. Hi Deanna, I am a Stafford descendant and interested in that line. I have some information, enough to know the my line is from Ruth Stafford (b.1786 Guildford, Vt), daughter of Isaac Stafford (1763-1831) and Keziah Slafter. He was the son of John Stafford. Is Doris Sheriden the person to contact on this family? Marti Randall In a message dated 2/12/2008 5:50:16 PM Eastern Standard Time, dsmith57701@adelphia.net writes: The Harringtons are: Abraham, Betsy, Electa (Galusha), Mary Ann (Vol. 1) Grace, Lydia*, Mary, Tasmasin Although Lydia is in the index as a Harrington, on p 187, this person is associated with the Stafford families of Chenango Co. as Lydia____. The submitter for this is Doris R. Sheridan, 4 Sunset View Ave., in Troy, NY. I know Doris personally and she is a very thorough Genealogist. There is much on the Stafford from this source. If anyone is interested in that family, I would have to make copies of the pages. 185-189 and send standard mail.
