    3. Thanks to Deanna for offering to do look-ups. I am researching Abiel Cook (Revolutionary War Soldier) and his wife, Margaret Krieger who were married in Pownall VT. in 1790, according to my records. They moved to New Lisbon, Otsego County. Are there more Cooks and Kriegers listed in the area? 3. On the 6th of March for about three weeks I'm going to be away from my computer. This situation has arrived that I need to be away, where computer access will be limited and what little time I'll have for such will mainly be used to let those close know how I'm doing. This absence is not due to illness. I hope to be back in the saddle by the first of April but will take it a day at a time on my return. While I could say more, I'll leave it at that as I don't feel comfortable sharing more at this time. I'm writing this list to announce that effective immediately, Derrell Teat will be caretaking the list until my return. Thank you Derrell for doing so. Tim

    3. 'Vermont Families in 1791" by the Genealogical Society of Vermont at Saint Alban. 1:199, 200 In the dispute between New York State and the committee which led to the formation of the State of Vermont, Lucas Wilson was on the side of the "Yorkers". He was one of hte two men from Putney on the Cumberland County Committee of Public Safety which met at the courthouse in Westminster from 1776 June 11 to 21. On 1779 Oct. 19, Lucas Wilson was commissioned by the New York Legislature as captain of the Putney compay in the Southern Regiment of Cumberland County Militia. His brother Benjamin was lieutenant in the same company. The jurisdiction of New York State in Putney eaporated shortly thereafter when Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain oys appears upon the scene. Lucas and 35 others were thrown into jail at Westminster and after a summary trial at which Allen personally appeared to see that "justice" was done. They were heavily fined. The references to this data is given as History of Eastern Vermont by Benjamin H. Hall, 1858 pp, 257, 343, 777. Rolls of the Soldiers in the Revolutionary War 1775-1783,Rutland, Vt., Tuttle Co., 1904, pp 823, 826 Vermont Families has the lineage of Lucas Wilson (1735-1818) son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Sprague/Doyle Wilson), married Sarah Corbin, dau. of Robert and Sarah Bliss Corbin. He was born on the 20th of Oct 1821 in Bainbridge and his father was William. Charlotte and Merritt had five children, but only two are known for sure...Addison s. CLEVELAND b 1842 and Rosella. Regret that that is all the information which is possessed and hope someone there can provide me with background on Charlotte and her ancestors....Thanks from SE Ohio and warm regards....John I find an Addison S. Cleveland, born in 1843, a Civil War veteran, who died 19 April, 1930 and is buried in Koisciusko Co., IN. He married a Jane A. Hadkins (born about 1855) in Kosciusko Co., IN, and had at least one child William "Marritt" (from his son's obituary, and the spelling of the middle name looks fishy to me) Cleveland, born in 1873 in Indiana. Addison S. Cleveland was living with his son William Marritt (Merritt?) Cleveland, husband of a Florence (or Flora) Reed and his family at the time of the 1930 Census in Scott Township, Kosciusko Co., IN as a widower. I think that I have a match; Addison isn't a common given name, and the middle initial matches. We may be off by one year on the birthyear... so we likely have a match. An obituary of Raymond W. Cleveland is to be found in the Sturgis, MI journal; an obituary of Raymond Cleveland's son Aldon K. Cleveland is to be found in Angola, Indiana. Much of this data comes from the USGENWEB pages for Kosciusko County, Indiana. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. In a message dated 2/24/2008 11:04:57 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, terryculver@embarqmail.com writes: My Amy Button, wife of Nathan Wells Brown, was b abt Oct 1769 d. Mar 28, 1854 and buried in Brookfield. So she in not John Hancock Button's sister, who died in 1881. I did not have a spouse for that Amy. I wonder what the source for her spouse's name "Brown" is. Does anyone know where Amy sister of John Hancock Button is buried? Dear Teresa: I got out my BUTTON FAMILIES OF AMERICA and looked up all the Amys. To my surprise, there are only three and none of the three is the one you cite. Would you please let me know who the parents of the Amy born 1769 were? I do not have her in my database at all. My info about Amys comes from BUTTON FAMILIES OF AMERICA, but I do have much BUTTON info from many places in NYS and New England that I wrote in the 1980s and 1990s. I do not have the burial place of Amy, sister of John Hancock BUTTON. There was a lot of confusion in some parts of BUTTON FAMILIES OF AMERICA. In looking at Amy BUTTON, sister of John Hancock, I am reminded that she could not have been the daughter of John BUTTON born 1749 and Anna COON born 1747; they were much too old to be her parents or the parents of several other children Nye attributes to them. In fact, some of us BUTTON researchers have thought that Anna COON married John BUTTON born 1756, which is my direct line, but we cannot prove it. At any rate, Nye sometimes gives children to couples who were much too old to be their parents. They may have been their grandparents or some other relation. Nye calls the husband of Amy, sister of John Hancock, as "Mr. Brown." The grandson of the author of the BUTTON BOOK has his grandfather's notes and has a lot more information than what the book has. His name is Ralph Button, and his email address is _ralph@rbutton.com_ (mailto:ralph@rbutton.com) . I have emailed him in the hope that he will be able to help sort out my BUTTON-BUTTON and BUTTON-PALMER problems. He emailed me back as follows: "I'll find the original research Grandfather did... usually he found some original record or a grave stone to confirm the data. I have gotten a better handle on his way of working now. He used cards to catalog his information. Then piles of papers, letters, or other research he had done to backup the basic information he had on his cards. So if he has the information on his card system, someplace in the boxes is the original documents or copies he made of them that will have where he confirmed the data." You could email him if you haven't already. I found his original message about this on GenForum. 3. How interesting, as I have been looking for the parents of Arvilla Burton/Button, born 1 April 1818 and married David White, abt 1844 both are buried in the Unadilla Forks cemetery. Her father maybe George Burton, but have not been able to find anything to back this up. An information would be most helpful. Thank you. To: nychenan@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYCHENAN] Buttons from Unadilla Forks, Otsego Co. to Brookfield There is a story amoung at least some of the BUTTON people of Eastern Pennsylvania that the original family name was BURTON, but when some member of that family "borrowed" a horse without benefit of the keys, and presumably was hung for the effort, the family changed their name to BUTTON. Laurence Lance, descendant of a Burton and related to Buttons.

    3. try a different email address... ie, non verizon type address as some types of addresses will cause bounces so moderators will bop you over the head because of the address and nothing more. It would however be nice if they would tell you that to begin with.
