    1. [NYCHENAN] Sylvester Wheeler, 1801; Hiram S. Wheeler, 1835, South Otselic, Chenango County, NY and Lincklaen, Chenango County, NY
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: 5999889 Surnames: Wheeler Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.chenango/1283/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a descendant of Sylvester Wheeler, b 1801 and Hiram S. Wheeler, b 1835. The both died in Chenango County. Sylvester Wheeler was born 03 Mar 1801 in Lebanon when it was still Chenango County and died Feb 1881, Otselic, Chenango County, NY. Captain Hiram S. Wheeler (Sylvester's son) was born 25 Apr 1835 in Lincklaen, Chenango County, NY and died in South Otselic, Chenango County, NY (I believe). Because I can not locate death records for either of these Wheelers, I am of the opinion that maybe they actually took ill and died in some other community, possibly living with a relative or in a hospital. Captain Hiram S. Wheeler was a civil War veteran and I believe was suffering from injuries suffered in the War. Maybe he was in a veteran's hospital or program in the county (Norwich?). If anyone has information, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. Richard Wheeler Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYCHENAN] This may not completely fall under the guidelines of genealogy, for this list but I wanted to share this with all of you
    2. M. Joan Meddaugh
    3. Dear list members, Even though this doesn't fall 100% under the guidelines of this list, I feel that in honor of Tim's new addition to his family and the start of his own new family I would share a poem a friend of mine wrote in honor of his adopted children and gave us permission to print in the newspaper we own call the "Candor Statement" printed in Candor, NY. I have his permission to reprint this. Hope you enjoy it. To Love a Child by Dick Anderson To bear a child Not a mother makes In name only is it so For Mothers love In the heart is born And the hearts were It does grow The adopted child You've taken in And given love so warm Is just as much A part of you As if to you were born

    1. [NYCHENAN] Norwich Sun article 6 Dec., 1935
    2. Bruce A Sherwood Sr
    3. Hello List, About a year ago I posted what I thought were all Norwich Sun articles that my mother had saved. I recently came across two more. I'll transcribe one now with one to follow. Norwich Sun 6 December 1935: Looking Backward - Twenty Years Ago. >From Sun of Dec. 6, 1915 "A social session of the Elks and the Alert Hose Company will be held in their rooms in the Piano block tomorrow night as 8 in compliment to R. F. HART, a popular member of both organizations. Mr. HART and his family will leave soon for their new home in Philadelphia. With a regular pastor in the pulpit for the first time in three months, the First Baptist church auditorium was filled to capacity yesterday as members extended a warm greeting to Rev. H. R. MACMILAN. Born - To Mr. and Mrs. T. R. GORTON of Terrace street, December 5, a son, Robert. A meeting of the Fish, Game, and Gun Club will be held tonight as 7:30 at the office of Judge Nelson P. BONNEY. Delegates to the state convention will be designated. The initiatory degree will be conferred tonight by the Odd Fellows. Carl ADWARDS, noble grand of the lodge, urges as large an attendance of members as possible. Attorney D. L. ATKYNS of Sherburne attended county court sessions today. Bruce A. 1. [NYCHENAN] URL change
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. In case you've not heard there is a new URL for Chenango County. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nychenan/ Old Favorites will still work but will be redirected to the one above. For many USGenWeb account holders this was the final straw. Many thought that it would make the distinction that USGenWeb is not part of Ancestry/Rootsweb less clear. The National USGenWeb site, over half the state sites and numerous county sites have moved elsewhere in the last week or two. One can view the national pages - http://www.usgenweb.org/ to see what URLs states now have and from the state pages any changes to county URLs. Please be aware that while both the national and state pages are updated regularly due to the volume of change occurring at this time all changes may not be reflected at the point in time you seek to find a particular county site. If you can not find a particular county site, please contact the state coordinator for the county you are seeking requesting the URL for the county. If you can not find a particular state site, please see the national web site for contact information. Tim Stowell

    3. How wonderful Tim for you and your family. I have an adopted granddaughter who was born in Washington State and she is half Japanese. There is a wonderful book and song witten By John McCutcheon called Happy Adoption Day. This is a book and song that I believe all adopted children should be given. Adopted children have a very, very special place in my heart. My granddaughter celebrates her adoption day each year. She also has contact with her biological family and knows she has a sister and 4 brothers. Congratulations. Betty

    3. Tim, Thank you so very much for allowing us to be a part of this process and to see your wonderful family. Tian has lots of uncles and aunts on the Madison County and Chenango County lists who will want to see more of her (to the extent you wish to share). Very best wishes to you all. What lovely news in these times when there seems to be only bad news. Be well, and good luck tomorrow in Chicago! I'll be thinking of you all! 3. Since I most likely will only have this once chance to have such a subject line - We started the process about a year ago, to add a sprout to our tree. This will be finished by the US immigration department tomorrow in Chicago. We've come to China for our new daughter, Tian, whose pictures you've seen by now. I'm tired this evening having climbed the Great Wall to the top. Wow. Yesterday we visited the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Beijing Acrobatics Theater where we saw an amazing show of acrobatics. ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell tstowell@chattanooga.net
