We have Smith, Wheeler's and Loomis from Greene NY in our family. I need to check to see if these are direct lines in our family or cousins but love old photos and have a large collection but none of these groups. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the GRAY - WHEELER and LOOMIS - WHEELER Families of New York. The first is a photograph of Lucina GRAY WHEELER which was taken at the A. W. Warner Studio in Greene, NY. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Lucina appearing to be in her 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. The second photograph is identified as William Guernsey LOOMIS, son of Jeremiah LOOMIS and Maria WHEELER. This photograph was taken at the Osborn Studio in Binghamton, NY likely sometime in the 1880's with William appearing to be about 10 years old at the time. In addition to these photographs I've also obtained from the same source a photograph of Marius Welch WHEELER who I believe is a brother to Lucina GRAY WHEELER'S husband William D. WHEELER. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information: Lucina GRAY was b. 14 Dec 1842 in Greene, NY to parents Samuel J. GRAY (b. 28 Oct 1813 in Greene, NY) and Eliza SMITH (b. about 1817 in Greene, NY). Lucina was one of 6 GRAY children including, Henry S.; S. D.; Charles D.; Lucina; George W.; and Jane GRAY all born between 1837 and 1852 in Greene, NY. Lucina married Will WHEELER (b. about 1838 and living in Greene, NY at the time of their marriage) about 1862 in Chenango Co. NY. Together the couple had two children, Jerry WHEELER and Emily WHEELER born between 1864 and 1866 in Chenango Co. NY. William Guernsey LOOMIS was b. 13 Jun 1879 in Oxford, NY to parents Jeremiah T. LOOMIS (b. 10 Dec 1836 in Oxford, NY) and Maria Sally WHEELER (b. 22 Jul 1839 in Greene, NY). William was one of 10 children born to this couple including, Elvira M.; Margaret Ross; Wheaton D.; Charlotte W.; Kathryn M.; George W.; Frank C.; William Guernsey; one unknown child; and Myrtle L. LOOMIS all born between 1861 and 1882 in Oxford, NY. William married Belva Lockwood MANZER (b. 2 Apr 1884 in McDonough, NY) on 29 Jun 1904 in Greene, NY and together they had 4 children including, Millard Edward; Alberta; Grace Elizabeth; and Ruth Maria LOOMIS two born in Fargo, ND in 1910 and 1919. William Guernsey LOOMIS died on 27 Feb 1961 in Seattle, WA. Census records provide the following information: 1860 census of Greene, NY: Samuel J. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the KALES Family, the first photograph is one of Mary KALES taken at the E. Murphy & Bro. Studio in Binghamton, New York. This photograph was likely taken in the 1860's or 1870's with Mary appearing to be in her 30's at the time it was taken. The second photograph is identified as Hannah SHELDON KALES and was taken at the Gentile Studio in Chicago, Illinois. This second photograph was probably taken in the 1880's with Hannah appearing to be in her 70's at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Hannah Harris SHELDON b. 20 Sept 1810 in Cairo, NY, married William S. KALES (b. 4 Jul 1806 in Monaghan, Ireland) about 1831 in Broome County, NY. Together the couple had 8 children including, Francis Henry; S. J.; Mary A.; Rachel M.; Elizabeth Eunice; Eliza A.; Martin; and F. S. KALES, all born between 1835 and 1848 in Broome and Chenango Counties, NY. Hannah Harris SHELDON KALES died 25 May 1884 in Coventry, NY. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I have 18 Beckwith entries in the town of McDonough, and one in Preston in my 1902 Chenango Co., NY Directory. The problem is that this directory only gives women's names if they are widowed or have a profession (dress maker, clerk, etc). Contact me at: j7402ea@yahoo.com Jack Eaton Born in Pitcher, Chen. It's official now. The total number of fifteen members of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society have given the library collection away. Read all about it. http://ny-genes.blogspot.com/2008/07/nyg-gives-their-library-away-as-was.html
> > > No problem here either. Years ago when the CB radio was the fad, we used > to blame those problems on the "skip." > > Anne I think the problem, now that I was able to send my mail this morning, is that my ISP or my provider or Rootsweb (how's that for clarity) was having server problems and rejected the mail. It happens so rarely these days that I figure right off the bat, ok, what did I do wrong - nothing I can think of; what's changed for one of these three entities that would delay my mail. If trying once again doesn't work, I then begin the process of going through other channels to try and figure out what is the blame, get a status of when it'll work again - for while I hate the non-communication, I feel it worse for those folks trying to post to lists and not seeing their posts come through to the list. ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell tstowell@chattanooga.net

Yes, I got the wrong name on the Moose Lake issue - but the surname showed up again as I was reorganizing a closet - seeking items to take to the Antique Road Show that my wife got tickets to for this Saturday. As I have relatives in both the North and South, sometimes the pictures get mixed. I don't intend to do that, they just do - so this Galusha family portrait I have, may indeed be a Northern photo instead of the Southern photo I thought it was. Back to the Road Show, I've decided to take my great grandfather Parkhurst's pocket watch - an Elgin, to see what it's worth beyond sentimental value. I'm also taking a small collection of wall posters / calendars I've stored for several years - including a 1939 calendar in some sort of heavy nonpaper material; a mourning poster for William McKinley, some artsy ones, and a religious one or two. Once I got to rambling in my closet it was difficult to decide what to take - that would perhaps be of interest / value versus just sentimental or curiosity. I did discover that way back when - perhaps Chas or others would remember such? that when one bought a can / carton of Cocomalt one would get a puzzle inside. I also have a puzzle from Kallfelz Bros. (Snow Flake Brand Baked Goods) in Syracuse that I guess is from the 1940s? It was surprisingly colorful. At some point I need to put these puzzles together to see what picture(s) they make. Tim
