I'm not sure if this will help, but there are several Lawtons in the Bushnell and Rathbun families in Madison County and Herkimer County around the time frame you are looking for. Samantha Lawton married Joseph Bushnell in 1831, after she died he married Jane Eliza Rathbun. I believe that some of the Rathbun family and Lawton family also married. It's a bit confusing, but if you'd like, I'll send you the info I have. I don't see "Grant", but you may be aware of others of his family. Hi! I am searching a possible trail that goes like this........Grant LAWTON born NY @ 1790, was living in Madison County NY @1813. Enumerated in Greene census in 1840. Daughter Eliza Ann LAWTON possibly married a CHAPPEL in 1830's or early 1840's. I'm also looking for the adult male CHAPPEL who may have died in the 1840's. If any of these families tie in with your research, I would love to know. Thanks! "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!" Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
Tim, I've submitted this query to the Chenango rootsweb before, but would like to get it into your brickwall for all to see again. "Seek parents, ancestry of William WHITE, b. 1742, MA; joined Revolutionary War from Vermont, wounded at Saratoga; received 640 acres land from NY in Jericho township as one of the “Vermont Sufferers;” died Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY, April 1827; married in Guilford, VT, 12 May 1767 Eunice ROGERS dau. of Samuell and Sarah ROGERS, b. 1745, Rutland, Worcester Co., MA, died 1818; nine children born Guilford, VT." Do know that school starts Monday so until about 10 days out my computer won't see me much at home because the one at work will. Added to this, my daughter started 3rd grade today, and there is homework to help her with as she is still learning to read English. Tuesday was get stitches out day, that a story in itself. My wife is in MN with her mother who is recovering from quintuple heart bypass from 10 days ago. So the experience of being a single parent even on a temporary time leaves me to figure out stuff and consult with a whole array of folks. I now know by experience some of what my parents must have felt. I shared this with my Mom today who said she too had learned that lesson understanding how her Mother must have felt - and so goes another generation learning the lessons the one before did as well. Sorry Jacquie, Send your email to me at besmer@goldenwest.net I will then forward the information on the marriage of Miles C. Cornwell and Dorcas Doty in Canada. Lorraine Leslie Besmer
Jacquie, please send me your email address. I have found the information on Miles Cornwell and Dorcas M. Doty on the Ancestry World site. I can share it with you, but only if I can send it direct as attachments cannot go though to the Rootsweb lists. My ancestors, the Cornell family lived in Ontario also. Lorraine Leslie Besmer
I have sent this to you. Thank you for showing me another source for some information that I need. **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Read reviews on AOL Autos. (http://autos.aol.com/cars-BMW-128-2008/expert-review?ncid=aolaut00050000000017 )
Does anyone have the Ancestry subscription that includes Canada records? I see a marriage certificate indexed, but do not have the subscription to get it. Apparently Miles Cornwell married Dorcus in Ontario. My 2nd great-grandmother was Lydia Jane (Jennie) WHEELER LORD (b. 9 Sep 1852). Her father was John WHEELER mother unknown. He had a brother, Wayne WHEELER. Jennie WHEELER was originally from Augusta, Oneida County where she married my 2nd great-grandfather, Francis Delay Lord, on 23 Dec 1869, but ended up in Pharsalia, where my great-grandfather, George Francis LORD was born 19 Nov 1870. The first is a photograph of Lucina GRAY WHEELER which was taken at the A. W. Warner Studio in Greene, NY. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Lucina appearing to be in her 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. The second photograph is identified as William Guernsey LOOMIS, son of Jeremiah LOOMIS and Maria WHEELER. This photograph was taken at the Osborn Studio in Binghamton, NY likely sometime in the 1880's with William appearing to be about 10 years old at the time. In addition to these photographs I've also obtained from the same source a photograph of Marius Welch WHEELER who I believe is a brother to Lucina GRAY WHEELER'S husband William D. WHEELER. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information: Lucina GRAY was b. 14 Dec 1842 in Greene, NY to parents Samuel J. GRAY (b. 28 Oct 1813 in Greene, NY) and Eliza SMITH (b. about 1817 in Greene, NY). Lucina was one of 6 GRAY children including, Henry S.; S. D.; Charles D.; Lucina; George W.; and Jane GRAY all born between 1837 and 1852 in Greene, NY. Lucina married Will WHEELER (b. about 1838 and living in Greene, NY at the time of their marriage) about 1862 in Chenango Co. NY. Together the couple had two children, Jerry WHEELER and Emily WHEELER born between 1864 and 1866 in Chenango Co. NY. William Guernsey LOOMIS was b. 13 Jun 1879 in Oxford, NY to parents Jeremiah T. LOOMIS (b. 10 Dec 1836 in Oxford, NY) and Maria Sally WHEELER (b. 22 Jul 1839 in Greene, NY). William was one of 10 children born to this couple including, Elvira M.; Margaret Ross; Wheaton D.; Charlotte W.; Kathryn M.; George W.; Frank C.; William Guernsey; one unknown child; and Myrtle L. LOOMIS all born between 1861 and 1882 in Oxford, NY. William married Belva Lockwood MANZER (b. 2 Apr 1884 in McDonough, NY) on 29 Jun 1904 in Greene, NY and together they had 4 children including, Millard Edward; Alberta; Grace Elizabeth; and Ruth Maria LOOMIS two born in Fargo, ND in 1910 and 1919. William Guernsey LOOMIS died on 27 Feb 1961 in Seattle, WA. Census records provide the following information: 1860 census of Greene, NY: Samuel J. GRAY, age 47, a Farmer, born NY Eliza GRAY, age 47, born NY Stephen D. GRAY, age 21, a Farm Laborer, born NY Charles D. GRAY, age 19, born NY Lucinda A. GRAY, age 17, born NY George W. Suzanne--Perhaps we been through this before, but I need to double-check. Do you know if Nathan Smith had a son George W. Smith born June 1819 in Greene? George is my 4th great grandfather, and he named one of his children Eliza. I note that Eliza Smith Gray named one of her children George W. Is this just coincidence or could George and Eliza be siblings? Thank you. --Mike DeMott Sshardebeck@aol.com wrote: > Eliza Smith Gray is the daughter of Nathan Smith and the sister of Henry V > Smith my great great grandfather. Wondering if you have run across a photograph of Caroline Blakeslee Dickinson. Some years ago my father recieved a newletter from a NY genealogy society - I think it might have been Southern Tier - and it ran a list of photographs they had recovered. Caroline was listed and we've been trying to find it for years. And no luck. If you run across it, we would love to have a copy of it! (or any other Dickinsons, Bixby's or Blakeslee's. Thanks so much! Cynthia Dickinson
There's a photo on Ebay auction number 270179391835 that shows a man that looks either familiar to me - or just like others of his time period. It seems I've seen someone like him before but can't place it. Regardless still interesting. Viewing items with a Norwich connection - over 250 - there are many photographs and this one item of an estate I've never heard of - and a rather large house. I wonder if someone can comment on it? It is listed as the Bermingham Estate in East Norwich, NY Thanks, Tim Stowell Chattanooga, TN
