I have a set of tintypes I bought online attributed to the Shaws of Chenango Co. & Elgin, Illinois. They are not individually identified but are probably from the 1840s - 1860s. I could scan them if you would like. I'm sorry I don't have much else. Betty Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Tim Put this into Google (can't seem to copy the URL) and Wikipedia will bring up an explanation that is pretty interesting. New York, Ontario and Western Railway New York, Ontario and Western Railway >From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Here is another URL explaining the RR www.unadillavalleyrailway.org/nyow/nyo&w2b.htm Also Google: History of Edmeston, New York/1890s >From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection It states operations ceased in 1960. Hope this is of interest to you. Cheers Pat R
From my earliest memories of New Berlin ca 1958 or 1959, the Unadilla Valley Railroad came north from Sidney to New Berlin. Can someone recall how the New York Ontario and Western came into New Berlin or did it share some tracks with the UV? Tim Stowell

My Chenango County brickwall is finding some of the daughters of Jesse Johnson (1768-1840)and wife Rhoda Baker (1770-1832) who came to Greene, Chenango County about 1808 from NH. They and several children are buried in the Lower Page Brook Cemetery. Daughters I am looking for are Celia, Miriam and Rhoda. Could one of these be your great great great grandmother. My 3X great grandmother was another daughter Dorothy (b. 1800) married Richard Laskey, had 12 ch. in Town of Greene, went to WI about 1844.

Son of Enos Ives and Ruth Bingham see webpage http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dav4is/ODTs?IVES.shml#TDP http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dav4is/ODTs/IVES.shtml#TOP Father Enos is the 6th generation this website shows Enos H. Ives married to Sylvia Johnson. This shows his birthdate about 1802. This is quite confusing as his father and grandfather were also named Enos as well as at least one nephew and some cousins! Luckily, some of them used middle initials. His burial record at Wilson Grove Cemetery, Sumner, Bremer County IA shows a birth date of June 6, 1800 and death December 17, 1870. This plot also contains the graves of his daughter, Lydia Ann Ives Baker and her daughter, Emma J. Baker. I am descended from Lydia's daughter, Adelia Ann Baker Cornell. 1830 Census for Stockton, Chautauqua County, New York shows Zenus Ives (Ancestry has this as Jonas Ives, 1 male 30 to under 40; 2 females under 5 years of age, 1 female 5 to under 10, l female twenty to under 30. The 1840 census for Kane County IL Series M704 Roll 62 Page 24 shows Zenos Ives 1 male under 5, 1 male 20 to less than 30, 2 females under age 5, one female age 10 to under 15 and one female over 20 to age 30. Occupation: Agriculture. At the time of the 1840 census the present Kendall County was part of Kane and LaSalle Counties. I believe this is our Enos as this family is listed two lines above Brewer Hubbell. Brewer Hubbell was the father of Lathrop H. Hubbell who married Enos' daughter Sylvia Alvira. The Hubbell cemetery is also on land owned by Brewer Hubbell. Lucina C. Ives, daughter of Enos and S. Ives who died December 24, 1848 was buried in this cemetery. The 1850 census for Little Rock, Kendall County, IL .Series M432 Roll 113 page 226 92/92 Enos Ives male age 50 born NY Farmer $500 Amy (or Aniy or Amiy) female age 34 born NY, Philina Female age 20 born NY, Lydia female age 14 born IL, Harry age 10 born IL also Harvey or Henry Jewett male age 12 born in IL. >From my research I have determined that Enos H. Ives, married Sylvia Johnson, This is determined by the Ives family website as well as the records for the Hubbell cemetery, and the marriage index for Sylvia Elvira Ives Hubbell Briggs. She may have died in NY before Enos and family moved to IL. I would think if Sylvia died in IL, she would have also been buried in the Hubbell cemetery with her daughter. As Anna "Annie" was also born in NY, she and Enos may have married there before the move to IL. I have no idea what Anna's maiden name was, when she married or when or where she died. >From various sources, I show the daughters of Enos H. Ives to be: Sylvia Elvira (Alvira) Ives Hubbell Briggs born Mayville, Chautauqua County, NY May 23, 1825 Died January 3 1908 Lucina C. Ives died 12-25-1848 at age 21. This would make her birthyear 1827, Mary O. "Philina" Ives Tripp born December 26, 1828 in Chautauqua County, NY Died February 17, 1916 in Mendota ,LaSalle County, IL Lydia Ann Ives born January 11, 1838 died Sept. 11, 1870, buried in Wilson Grove Cemetery, Sumner, Bremer County IA, the same location as Enos H. Ives (her father) and her daughter Emma J. Baker Anna does not appear to be buried there. Although she may have remarried and buried under another name. She did remain in that area as she raised her daughter Lydia's children. Adelia Ann was married in that area. I am not sure where Lydia's sons were married. Enos Henry Ives born about 1839 served in the Civil War, died after the Civil War but no pension was requested, even though he had two young children. I believe the two youngest were from a second marriage. Census records show Anny or Anna Ives as his wife and her age was too young to be the mother of the older daughters. As both Enos and Anna are shown as being born in NY, I surmise that Sylvia died and is buried in NY. Does anyone have any information on her death and Enos' marriages? These could have occurred in Chautauqua County, New York. Blessings, Lorraine Leslie Besmer, a direct descendant of Enos H. Ives
