I have Margaret Avery in my husband's family tree only because she was married into the Franklin family. Moses Franklin was my husband's 2nd gr-grandfather. John Franklin was grand nephew of Moses Franklin. I am not actively researching Margaret, but did notice that her obit says she was born in New York City. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mary SPENCER ROWE BARNES which was taken at the Hotchkiss Studio in Norwich, New York. The photograph is dated 1889 with Mary appearing to be in her 40's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information: Mary A. SPENCER b. 5 May 1845 to parents Horace Dean SPENCER (b. 29 Jun 1807) and Margaret BURNSIDE (b. 15 Apr 1844). Mary was one of 10 children born to the couple including, Ellen C.; Martha A.; Edgar D.; Celestia Catherine; Carlton O.; Mary A.; Luzerne H.; Emily V.; Hiram Greeley; and Margaretta SPENCER all born between 1833 and 1853 in Otsego Co. NY. A second marriage for Horace Dean SPENCER to Nancy BARNES meant another sibling for Mary, Lillian M. SPENCER born in 1877. Mary married George N. ROWE about 1865 (b. 13 Jan 1844) and together they had two children, Grace L. ROWE b. 6 Jan 1872 in Oneonta, NY and Hervey Spencer ROWE. Mary then married Simeon R. BARNES. I am hoping to locate someone from Mary's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to their care. (Darius is indexed as Davis Beebe) He`s 75, Julia is 69. With them is a daughter, Mary, 36 & a granddaughter, Ester Myers, 15. Darius is listed in the Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo with a death year of 1914. I don`t see Julia there. Darius probably died in Canisteo. Wheeler, b 1827. Based on their birth dates, is very possible they married in about 1848 - 1850. The birth date you referenced (8 Sept 1852) fits well. However, there were so many Wheelers in that area in that time frame, it is difficult to say. I descend from Daniel Wheeler, born 1771 in Canaan, Columbia County, NY who removed to Lebanon and Hamilton area of Madison County, NY in the 1797 time frame as earlier settlers. He arrived with his brothers Elisha Wheeler, born 1768 and Ichabod K. Wheeler, born 1775. They all had about 5-8 children and lived in and around that area. Daniel had 3 sons, one of which was the Sylvester Wheeler I mention in my post. Sylvester had three sons as well, which I mention also. Sorry I can not be of more assistance. I'm having problems proving who Jennie's parents were. I know from her obituary that she had a brother named Wayne WHEELER. The father's name on her death certificate looks like John, but I'm not positive. Her mother is listed as unknown. Any help I can get will be most appreciated.
