YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT THAT AARON ROOT AND SALLY PIER WERE THE PARENTS OF THIS OTIS. REGARDING NATHANIEL OGDEN.THE 1840 CENSUS GIVES HIS AGE AS BETWEEN 30 AND 40 (BORN 1800 TO 181O)MUCH TOO YOUNG TO BE HARRIETS FATHER,BUT MOST LIKELY HER BROTHER.NATHANIEL WAS LIVING NEARLY NEXT DOOR TO OTIS ROOT WITH JUST ONE FAMILY IN BETWEEN. ADDITIONALLY WE FIND IN GUILFORD,CHENANGO CO, ALVAH OGDEN,BORN ABOUT 1811,DAVID OGDEN,BORN ABOUT 1817,JOHN OGDEN BORN ABOUT 1818,ALL BORN IN CONNECTICUT. MY CONCLUSION IS THAT THESE ARE ALL SIBLINGS OF HARRIET AND IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE THERE IS ALSO A JOHN OGDEN,BORN 1791,CONN, AND HIS WIFE ABIGAIL,BORN 1790,CONN WHO COULD EASILY BE THE PARENTS OF THE FIVE SIBLINGS,NATHANIEL,ALVAH,HARRIET,DAVID,AND JOHN. NO POSITIVE DOCUMENTATION,HOWEVER IT DOES FIT. ROBERT Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi, Sorry, I didn't notice that you said Town of Norwich in your reply. I was concentrating more on the original posters information. Have you been in touch with the original poster? Why do they think that the person died in South New Berlin and not Norwich? Did the town clerk also have a death record, they should have. But as I said, if the same informant gave the information on both record/certificate and registry, you probably won't get any more information, than what you already have. If you know the place of birth, then the next thing to do is scour the newspapers and the churches in the area. I would also contact the other people who have trees online and ask them, ask about their sources, it's a lot better to just ask them what source they used and find the information yourself anyway rather than have someone give you the information. So if death occurred in South New Berlin, that is where I would go, or call. Like I said, though if the same person filled out the death registry information, likely the same information was given for death record. But I would call the clerk for South New Berlin explain what you need and see if they would be willing to do a look up for you either while you are on the phone or you can call back when would be the best time etc. Or what would they prefer you do. That you were given advice to look for a death record instead of death certificate or death registry information. That the obit isn't giving you what you need either. 3. John, The place of death is not what is in question. What is in question is the place of birth. The person doing the research has found the death registry which was found in Norwich, the county seat. On the death registry it states place of death as South New Berlin. The hope is to find more information from the death certificate or death record which might or might not give place of birth AND give parents information. In my research I have found that you can get more information from death records than certificates or registry's. Also, this person is posting via the message boards on rootsweb/ancestry.com hence the gateway address. Most people who post to the message boards do not subscribe to the mailing lists so will not see any messages that are replies sent via the mailing lists. With death records you get information such as parents names and where they were born. You also get physicians records and what the person died of and where the person is buried. Registers and Certificates don't give all that detailed information. Some towns did keep records before they had too. I have found a couple in my own personal research, it is rare, but so wonderful when you find it. I suggest that you follow Elaine's lead and try New Berlin. It could also be possible that she was born in NYC, as the other poster suggested, and you need to look there. Try the others searching this family and see what their sources are for her parents?
