Hi, I'm looking for Helen Mcadams who is known to have lived in New Berlin, Chenango County, NY. She also had a winter home in Venice, Florida. I'm trying to contact her or her husband William. I believe we're distantly related and I would like to find at least one living descendent of Isaac Sisson (1828 - 1906) of Lithgow, Dutchess County, NY. They could also be in Oneonka, NY I hope someone can hook me up with her or her family. I'm retired and working on ancestry for my extended family. I live in Sonora, California, am married, with children and grandchildren. Thanks for your help. Ed Nissen, edjeanne@mlode.com

Do you know of the Lyon, Bennett or Hill family in Foster? Currently, my husband and I are in Florida, but will be going back to RI in May (snowbirds!). We lived in Warwick for many years and now camp summers in Glocester . Do you know anything about the Foster Preservation Society? Their secretary and I got to know each other last summer when I spend many, many days there (town hall, cemeteries, etc.) I have lost touch with her...tried to email, but have had no response back and the society website that she was responsible for seems to be fairly stagnant. I would love to get together with you, pick you brain. Is that possible...or am I overstepping my bounds? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Might this be the same David Swan who appeared in the 1800 census in Warren, CT with one male 16-26, one male under 10, one female 26-45, and one female under 10? I can't find a record of this David's birth in Barbour for Warren or Kent (the parent town), or a record of his marriage, or a vital record of the births of his son and daughter. According to the Warren Grantor and Grantee indexes, he did not own real property in Warren. Who is this David Swan of New Berlin? I'm particularly interested in identifying his parents and whether he was the same man who was in Warren, CT in 1800. In the 1800 census in Warren, his name appeared immediately below that of Daniel Swan, age 45 or over. Might Daniel have been his father? Thanks! Many NY families who went to MI. I just received the following info. on another list that may be of interest. Hope it helps someone. Herma The Library of Michigan just launched a free Web site that will feature nearly 1 million Michigan death certificates never before available electronically. These death certificates for the years 1897 to 1920 hold tremendous research opportunities for genealogists, historians and students - as well as anyone interested in Michigan's rich heritage. These records are online at www.seekingmichigan.org, the brand-new, one-stop shop for Michigan historical records. Seeking Michigan is a partnership between the Library of Michigan and the Archives of Michigan, which also has digitized state records for this Web site. "Previously people had to visit the Library of Michigan to view these records on microfilm, or order them for a fee from the state vital records office or a county clerk," Special Collections Manager Randy Riley said. "Now anyone in the world can go online to Seeking Michigan and find the record of interest to them within minutes and at no cost." The Library of Michigan's Abrams Foundation Historical Collection is one of the top 10 genealogy collections in the United States. The Abrams Foundation, which has given the library more than $2 million since the 1980s, funded the death records digitization. In addition to having the records digitized, the Library had them indexed for easy searching by name, death date, location, age and more. As of today, about 25 percent of the nearly 1 million death records have been added. The remaining death records should be online within the next month.
Sandy, I looked in the Business section of my 1902 Chenango Co. Directory, but did not find a Packard Funeral home listed there. However, I believe the businesses listed there were paid for and not free. There are several funeral directors listed. Let me know what town or township this would have been in, and I'll see if there ere any close. We haven't corresponded in a while, hope things are going well for you. Does anyone know anything about a Packard Funeral home or where it was located? They handled the funerals of Mercyr B & Walter B. Harrington in 1925 & 1928. I am trying to track down the funeral home but I don't know if it still exists or not. This couple is supposed to be buried in Oneonta Plains Cemetery and there is no record of any kind that tells anything about them or shows them buried there nor can they be found in any place in the cemetery. If the funeral home no longer exists it could maybe still help me to know where it was located. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Sandy Goodspeed Oneonta Plains Cemetery Historian

I've "rescued" an old photograph album which appears to have belonged to Georgie W. WHEELER and is dated Christmas 1874. Esther Terry and Joseph Maxson Barber are our great-great-great-great grandparents. I've seen the info confirming the descendancies from Richard Warren, Francis Cooke, and John Cooke to Esther's mother Mary Kenyon. And from Thomas Rogers to Esther's father Elnathan Terry. (I believe Joseph Maxson Barber is also descended from the Warrens and Cookes -- as well as George Soule -- but his documentation is lacking....) I'm having trouble finding documentation Esther's and Jopeph's marriage. Also the birth of Esther's and Joseph's daughter Altana Barber (b. 1824). And her marriage to William Hoag (son of Zina Hoag and grandson of Daniel Hoag). And the birth of Altana's and William's daughter Emma Lunette. I think all of those events potentially occurred in Norwich Chenango Co. NY (or possibly Cattaraugus or Chautauqua). Esther and Joseph and Altana and Emma are in the 1850 Poland Chautauqua Co. NY census (living in the household of Altana's brother Elnathan Barber along with their sister Almeda). Esther and Joseph are in the 1860 Sioux Harrison Co. IA census (That census seems to have a lot of mistakes. Esther and Joseph living in the household of Elnathan Barber -- mistakenly id'd as a male "Alma," who was married and still living in Poland Chautauqua Co NY.... -- They were living next door to the Hoags -- with Altana and Emma mis-id'd as "Altimy" and "Allata"....) Part of my problem is that Joseph Maxson Barber was married before and no one has any info on his wife. (It appears his son by his first marriage is living next door in 1860). A great great aunt and her cousin recorded the lineages in the 1930's and the censuses, etc., support what they say. But that documentation is less than perfect....
