    1. [NYCHENAN] Big find!

    3. Hi everyone, Just thought I would give you all a bit of a tease, and a warning to Tim so he's ready :) . Over the next few months I will be sending Tim photos for the website. I just got two of three boxes of things from my uncles estate that includes letters and a lot of photos including hundreds from Chenango County from early 1900's on and even a couple more from the 1800's. Some of the letters may even be of interest to some on the site as well so I may scan some of those. Some photos have a lot of people named on them from school pictures around 1903 and even have some graduation programs to scan for the site! My only issue at the moment is how to do this as the computer I am using won't work with the scanner I have. I may just buy another scanner for this project as I want to scan ALL the photos for the family. I'll keep you informed of how things are going and what I decide to do. I hope that some of you can make some connections or find some photos usefull! John

    3. Hi Alisha: Thank you, but I don't think so.  Lucy was definately Lucy and Moses was born in NYC or Quebec or Canada.  That was pretty consistant.  After his marriage in 1854, I pretty much have a paper trail.  It's just before 1854, I can't seem to find. 3. Thanks for your reply, actually, I was just asking about the possibility of publishing a list, not the posting the actual photographs. A simple list of names would not take up much space on a server. Anyway, it was a list that I was asking about, and maybe you already have that compiled. But if the photographs are not identified I can see where that would not be possible. 3. Hosting of the images is not a problem at all as there are dozens of free hosting sites such as flickr, photobucket, picasa and many more. When images are posted to these sites you have the ability to tag them as Copyrighted or Creative Commons (free use with attribution,) or even public domain. This would totally relive the bandwidth problem on your servers and still make them readilly available for all to see. The images that you restrict with copyright have full protection under federal law. About 2 weeks ago we had a family contact us from Virginia and now we are in touch with 3 of the 4 girls from the same orphanage bedroom in China. The first was adopted 15 months before our daughter who was the second one to leave. The third was adopted out last October. We hope to have a reunion between our daughter and this third adoptee next month. The fourth girl opted to be adopted in China but at least we have the three now in contact with each other. Our tree has so much more color now as now my heritage becomes hers as well. With the addition of her finding her China sisters, her life has been doubly blessed. Tim

    3. Hi Inge It is not unusual to find microfilms of old Cemetery or Church Records are difficult to read. I have spent many years going through numerous microfilms of that type (including Census films). Not to mention that many of these records are usually not in any specific order either. The good point is that it is far less expensive than traveling to seek information. . Reviewing microfilms is not easily or readily done; most times requiring much time and labor to obtain successful information and documentation. However the DAR Cemetery Records are considered acceptable documentation for many lineage applications (but not all) and the various transcriptions one finds on the internet (that are retyped) are not acceptable (nor tombstone pictures). It is one of the difficulties of researching. One finds that old hand written record books (church, tax, court or land records) are also difficult to read, but very valuable for Genealogy documentation. I have asked for a whole transcription for certain cemeteries and they will not copy it, they will do searches by name only. 3. If there is no place on the Internet that has this I will go and ask if I can transcribe it and put it online. I am missing so many ancestors in Chenango County that I would love to see what is in there. NY, Vol. 1-2.  What a mess that was.  It was a film of a typescript volume the official title as follows:  Volume 46 of New York State Series Cemetery, Church & Town Records, by the D.A.R. property of Guernsey Memorial Library, Norwich, NY.  Presented to the library by the Captain John Harris Chapter, D.A.R. 1933. The pages were typed on what must have been very thin paper, as each page had the ink leached into it from the page previous and the page after.  If there was a clear spot on a page I could sort of read bits from the next page but in most cases not at all.  Sometimes the clearest image was on the filmed back side of a page which had a backwards image of the page before.  Reading backwards is not easy either.  So I guess my question is does anybody know if I can get this information elsewhere? 3. I am searching for a birth or baptismal record for Harriet Carey. I know she was living with her parents in Coventry 1870, age 4. 3. That sounds like a great idea Elaine. I would love to know what family information is in that book. I too have several families in Chenango County.
