I agree that Amasa (b. Oct 20 1765 to Oliver West and Thankful Nye in Tolland Ct) is the one who was the minister in early Chautauqua County. However Gilbert in The Early History of Ellicot states that Amasa West was "about 40 years of age and a bachelor" [ abt 1816 ].That would mean Amasa the minister was born about half way between Amasa (b. 1765) and Amasa (b. 1789). I also believe that Amasa the minister was possibly the Amasa West you found in the 1830 Census at Springfield, Erie, PA. (See my post about Jehiel Parks, Solomon Shepard, Moses Adams etc in Migration to Johnson Co. IA -1840) I am trying to fill in the blanks of the larger West family to which both Amasas belong. John West -- although not the son of either Amasa--was possibly related. I have reason to believe John was in Chautauqua County at the same time as the minister and am trying to scrape together whatever details I can--specific to Chautauqua County. (I have the ancestries of dozens of Wests of NY, MA and CT--John not in any of them). So I am trying to construct a family migration history from scratch.
