Although your data is very disappointing to me, I am posting this anyway in hopes of connecting with other West researchers. My ancestor was John West b. NY abt. 1796. I found several "John Wests" in early Chautauqua County census. Because I also found a "Jehiel Parks" and an "Edumund Shephard" in early Chautauqua land records I hoped they might be part of a westward migration, with John West, to Iowa in the early 1840's. Now I know your John died in 1839. Obviously I was wrong. But thanks for saving me from fruitless further investigations in Chautauqua County.
