Goate (my ggf). Yes, Robert H. Goate (my ggf) & William Smith Goate were brothers Yes, William H. Goate (my gf) changed the spelling of his last name to GOOT following his failed marriage to Jennie Blodgett, before marrying my grandmother. William Smith Goate had a stepson, William Henry MERCER (natural s/o Henry & Mary Elizabeth (Apthorp) Mercer). Following Henry's death, Mary Elizabeth married William Smith Goate, they had twins George & Susan who both died as infants, they went on to have three more daughters, Susan, Mabel, & Mary. Robert H. Goate only had an adopted son named Robert H. Goate, Jr, this was his natural grandson, this was Robby, the natural s/o John W. LEE & Annie Smith Goate.
