Jungquist, 88, died Sunday (July 17, 2005) in the Waters of Dunkirk. He was born May 25, 1917, in Lanse, Pa., the son of Joseph and Pearl Beam Jungquist. He was a 1935 graduate of Lakewood High School, and had been employed by Pine Valley Central School System as a custodian for 25 years, retiring in 1977. He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in National Guard E Company on Sept. 13, 1940, later being deployed to the U.S. Army serving until Oct. 24, 1945, and obtained the rank of private first class. He received the Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Pine Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2522, the South Dayton American Legion and the Fluvanna Disabled Veterans. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. He is survived by his wife, Alice Jane Pickup Jungquist of Cherry Creek, whom he married Aug. 27, 1941; a son, Gordon Jungquist of Bethel Park, Pa.; two daughters: Barbara J. Whitcomb of Liverpool, N.Y., and Beverly Dissell of Cherry Creek; six grandchildren: five gr! eat-grandchildren; a stepbrother, Barney Edson of Jamestown; and a sister, Bertha Weaver of Gowanda. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Jungqist; and his stepmother, Ruby Lord Jungquist. Burial will be in Cherry Creek Central Cemetery in the village of Cherry Creek.
