Vanstrom, 87, formerly of Mud Creek Road, Kennedy, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 16, 2004) in Heritage Village Health Care Center, Gerry, NY. A lifelong area resident, he was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Jamestown, the son of E. Albert and Florelle Stone Vanstrom. He was a graduate of Falconer High School. In earlier years, he was employed as a tool and die maker by HyGrade Tool Co., the former Proto Tool Co. as tool room foreman, and later by Arro Tool & Die Co., retiring in 1979. He also owned and operated a small dairy farm on the Mud Creek Road, and was a member of the Kennedy United Methodist Church. He is survived by three daughters: Elaine Marie Campbell and Ruth Rowley, both of Kennedy, and Janis Stolarski of Elma, N.Y.; four sons: David and James Vanstrom, both of Falconer, Stephen Vanstrom of Jamestown and Thomas Vanstrom of Kennedy; 21 grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Vanstrom of Jamestown; and two sisters: Vivian Colander of Jamestown and Carol Gill of Elmira. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen E. Baker Vanstrom, whom he married Dec.18, 1937, in Jamestown, and who died Jan. 21, 1991; a son, Rodney Vanstrom, who died Jan. 20, 2003; and a brother, Roger Vanstrom who died in 1929.
