''Peggy'' Nordstrom, 80, of 63 Canterbury Road, West Ellicott died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, (Aug. 6, 2005) in WCA Hospital. An area resident since coming to the United States following World War II, she was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Chagford Devonshire, England a daughter of the late Frederick C. and Lucy Painter Knight. She had attended school in England and was a member of the British Royal Navy during WWII. Prior to and immediately following her military service she worked as a secretary for the Torquay Paignton Gas Company in Devonshire, England. During her navy service she was stationed in Rosneath, Scotland; and Liverpool, Brixham, Plymouth and Dartmouth, England. While in the states she had worked at the Seaway Hospital in Trenton, Mich., as a phone operator and while living in Jamestown had worked in the payroll department for Hopes Windows for several years. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, William H. Nordstrom whom she married Aug. 7, 1947, in Jamestown; a son David J. Nordstrom of Burke, Va.; a daughter Janice M. Lowney of Glenmoore, Pa.; and five grandchildren. Besides her parents ! she was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Shwenke, who died October 31, 1988. Arrangements are by the Lind Funeral Home.
