H. JOHNSON __________ Wellknown business man of Jamestown passed away at his home about noon today. R. H. Johnson died at his home at 833 North Main street shortly after noon today, age 62 years [ August 19, 1903 ]. Mr. Johnson had been engaged in the wholesale liquor business in this city for the past 15 years, and was very widely known in business circles in western New York and western Pennsylvania. He had been in ill health for two or three years and in critical condition for the past few weeks, so that his death did not come as a surprise to those who were familiar with his condition. It will cause universal sorrow, however, among his large circle of friends. Before coming to Jamestown he was located at Warren, Pa., and prior to that was engaged in business at St. Petersburg, Pa. R. H. Johnson was a veteran of the Civil war, having served faithfully as a member of Company G. 49th N.Y.V. He was a member of Post Brown, G.A.R.., and of the Masonic and Elk fraternities. Besides a wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Fred W. Dewey and Miss Nellie Johnson, all of this city. The funeral will be held from the family home Friday at 4 p.m. (Jamestown Evening Journal, Wednesday August 19, 1903, p. 1.) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ OBITUARY Funeral of R. H. Johnson The funeral of R. H. Johnson was held from the late home 833 North Main street Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock and many relatives and friends were present. The Rev. J.G. Townsend D.D., officiating. Through respect for the deceased a large number of the liquor dealers closed their stores during the funeral ceremony, which was conducted by Mt. Moriah lodge, F. & A. M. and was a most impressive service. The quartet of the First Presbyterian church furnished music for the occasion. The bearers, all members of the Mt. Moriah lodge, were P. F. Simon, W. R. Botsford, J. W. King, George Welshofer, C. E. Stratton and B. D. Phillips. The remains were laid to rest in Lake View cemetery.
