Barnes, 88 years old, of Gillis St., Fredonia and formerly of Brocton, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005 at Brooks Memorial Hospital. She was born at Jamestown, NY on Dec. 16, 1916, the daughter of the late Sydney and Bessie Gardner Benson. She was a 1934 graduate of the Jamestown School System. She had been a resident of Fredonia for the past 12 years. She retired in 1987 from Brocton Central School where she had been the secretary to the superintendent of the school. She was a member and former Sunday School teacher of the Tri-Church Parish of Brocton. She was a former Brocton Cub Scout den mother and was an officer of the Brocton Little League Baseball and member of DAR. She was an avid player of Scrabble and Up Words and had talent as a seamstress. She also enjoyed going to perfor mances at the local area theaters. She was a devoted parent and grandparent. She is survived by six sons, Gerald S. Barnes of Dunkirk, NY, John L. Barnes of Titus ville, Fla., Robert L. Barn! es of Huntsville, Ala., Jay S. Barnes of Chicago, Ill., and Jefferson T. Barnes of Buffalo, NY; one daughter, Betty Barnes of Fre donia, NY: 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Barnes, whom she married in 1937 and preceded her in death in 1968; and two sisters, Janet Cuoco and Lourene Wheelock.
