Stelmach, 58, of Dunkirk died Thursday evening (Oct. 25, 2007) at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 26, 1949 in Gowanda, the son of the late Leo and Clara (Taber) Stelmach. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Stelmach was employed by IIMAK in Amherst as a warehouse team leader. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed computers, antiquing and the outdoors. He had been a member of the Kosciuszko Polish Home. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Kuczenski) Stelmach, whom he married Feb. 25, 1969; one son, Paul (Jennifer) Stelmach of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Amy (Leroy Jr.) Winters, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandsons, Michael Winters and Jonathan Stelmach; two sisters, Debbie Stelmach of Kailua, Hawaii, and Leona Colvenbach of South Dayton; one niece; and one nephew. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael J. Parker will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery Columbarium. Friends are invited to call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
