She was born August 29, 1920 in San Antonio, Tex., the daughter of Augustus F. and Helen Stephansky Allen. She was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School, and was also a graduate of the Athenaeum & Mechanics Institute in Rochester. While in Jamestown she was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Virginia moved to California in 2001 to be near her daughter after living in Rochester from 1970. While in Rochester she was employed and retired from St. Anne's Retirement and Nursing Home. During her years in Jamestown Virginia was employed by the Jamestown Public School System. After retirement she traveled extensively including visiting her children and grandchildren in California and Hawaii Virginia was the great granddaughter of Colonel Augustus Franklin Allen, a pioneer settler of Jamestown in 1816, and was the last surviving child of Augustus F. Allen, prominent in New York State and local politics. Allen Park, previously owned by the Allen Family, was donated to the city and remains one of the largest parks in Jamestown. She is survived by her son, James Bruce Powers of Honolulu, Hawaii; her daughter, Candace Allen Moyer-Dokulil of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren: Kristin Allen Moyer Ford of Seattle, Wash., Jon Richard Moyer, Jr. of New York City; and Evan Kiyoshi Powers of Honolulu, Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus F. and Helen Allen; a sister, Cynthia Allen Hart; and two brothers: Falcon Scott Allen and Augustus F.
