He had been complaining of illness and was unable to sleep. He told the family not to call him in the morning as he wished to get some rest. After some hours, his room was entered and he was found unconsious and could not be roused. Every effort was made to wake him, to no avail. He died about 5 PM. He leaves a widow and young child. The whole community is shokcked by the sudden death. Granddaughter of Joseph Dixon and Mercy Raymond, his wife. Joseph Dixon, (1754-1839), enlisted as a private, 1777, for the war. He was assigned to the quartermaster's department and in 1779 became brigade forage master. He was at Monmouth, wounded in service and received an honorable discharge, 1782. In 1832 he was placed on the pension roll of Chenango county, N. Y., for service of captain in the Connecticut Continental Line. He was born in Lebanon, Conn.; died in Smyrna, N Y. Stephen Whitney and his wife, Relief, were listed in the records of the East Congregational Church on 30 Dec 1770 as owning the covenant. He and Relief Stearns lived circa 1783 at Lunenburg, MA.
