Prittie Jr., 35, of Maple Springs, was killed yesterday when the vehicle he was teaching a 16-year-old boy to drive struck the spillway of a pond throwing him into the windshield, severing a jugular vein, according to the Sherriff''s Department. Coroner Ralph Wallace has issued a certificate of accidental death. Officers said the accident occurred shortly before noon at a pond on state owned property west of Coe Road, Town of Stockton. The Sheriff's office said the vehicle, operated by David Stimpson of Kenmore, was traveling across a dam toward the pond when it went out of control into the pond and struck the spillway. Another passenger in the vehicle was Joseph H. Pearson, 14, of East Aurora, whose parents owned the vehicle, police said. The Sheriff's office said the death, though termed a traffic accident, will not be classified as a highway fatality, Mr. Prittie was employed at Midway Park for many years and for the past 10 years had managed the Arcade at the Park. He was born Sept. 25, 1929, at Frewsburg, the son of J. Fenton and Beatrice Wethy Prittie, and had resided in the Maple Springs area since 1935. He was a graduate of Bemus Point High School. He was a member and trustee of the Maple Springs Union Church; a member of Dewittville Grange; and served as a counselor for Outdoor Life for young boys. Besides his parents of Lewis Road, Bemus Point, he is survived by two brothers, Don Prittie, Sioux City, Iowa, and Wayne Prittie, Gerry; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Maple Springs Union Church. The Rev. Cecil Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Ivory Cemetery.
