Nania, 81, formerly of 332 E. Virginia Blvd., died at 10:05 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 18, 2003) in Heritage Village Health Care Center. An area residens ince 1945, she was born July 5, 1922, in South Boston, Mass., the daughter of Richard and Jane "Jennie" Driscoll Hines Sr. She was a 1940 graduate of South Boston High School, and locally was a communicant of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and its Parochial School Mothers Club. She was past president of the John W. Tiffany Post 53 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Mrs. Nania was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was extremely devoted to her children and grandchildren, who were always very inportant to her. She is survived by two daughters: Mary Jane Gerstel of Jamestown and Irene N. Terreberry of Maple Springs; five grandchildren: Lean Gerstel of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Rachael Gerstel of Pittsburgh, Jennie Terreberry of Star City, W. Va., Joshua Terreberry of Waterville, Vt., and Ellen Terreberry of Durham, Conn.; and a sister, Lillian Larato of Dorchester, Mass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore F. "Sam" Nania, whom she married Aug. 8, 1942, in St. Monica's Catholic Church in South Boston, and who died Jan. 6, 1989; two sisters: Ellen "Sissy" Cunningham and Marion Hines; and a brother: Richard Hines Jr. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
