Gronberg, 93, formerly of Chapin Street and Fairmount Avenue, died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) in Heritage Village Health Care Center. He was born June 25, 1911, in Jamestown, the son of Andrew and Johanna Benson Gronberg. He was a 1929 graduate of Jamestown High School and for 35 years was a salesman for SM Flickinger Co. A World War II veteran, he served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where he had served in many capacities, including moderator. He was a member emeritus of the board of directors of the Lucille Ball Little Theatre. In earlier years, he was an avid bowler in the senior citizen leagues. He appeared in Little Theatre productions for more than 40 seasons. In addition to acting, he loved to write. During the early days of radio in Jamestown, he wrote his own material for his radio show, Grinn and Barrett. He also authored several one-act plays and one three-act play which were performed at Little Theater. He is survived by a daughter, Susan K. Anderson of Jamestown; a son, Dr. Timothy J. Gronberg of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren: Kera Vanham of Rochester, Lise DeBruin of Angleton, Texas, Leah Gronberg of Louisville, Ky., Andrew Gronberg of Lubbock, Texas; and a great grandson.He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Saxton Gronberg, whom he married in 1946 and who died in 1964; three sisters: Selma Crick, Elida ''Peggy'' Johnson and Lillian Ryan; and two brothers: Anders Erik and Hugh Gronberg. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
