He was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Cherry Creek, the son of Emanuel and Antonette Cipolla Mangine. A Chautauqua County resident his entire life, he was a 1932 graduate of Falconer High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corp in China and Burma, India. He received a medal for airmanship and flew numerous missions over ''the hump.'' He owned and operated Ma's and Pa's Restaurant in Gerry for 12 years and was employed as chief pilot by Electro Sonics and A.V.M Corporation and was a contract pilot until 1999. He was a member of the David Vern Luce Post 778 American Legion and in 2002 was honored for 50 years of membership. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and the Hump Pilot Association. He became a pilot in 1932 at the age of 18 and logged more than 20,000 hours and was still flying as co-pilot at the age of 89. He enjoyed working on fork lifts in his barn and spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by his two daughters-in-law, Nancy and Vicki Mangine. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Greene Mangine, whom he married Dec. 1, 1942; a daughter, Barbara Mangine Wheeler of Winter Haven, Fla.; two sons: Anthony ''Corky'' and Richard D. Mangine, both of Cassadaga; six grandchildren: and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
