Proper, 85, of 79 Gardner St., Fredonia, formerly of West Avenue, Brocton, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Westfield Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 5, 1918, a daughter of the late James and Ruth Dake Cave. A homemaker, she will be remembered for her love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bingo. She is survived by her husband, Raymond :"Duke" Proper, whom she married April 18, 1970; a son, Dan Locey of Ellery Center; a daughter, Cynthia Miraglia of Panama; four stepsons: John, Peter and Tom Proper, all of Fredonia, and Joseph Proper of Florida; a stepdaughter, Donna Wessell of Colorado; eight grandchildren: six great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul and David Cave of Florida; two sisters, Mary Lou Lawson of Jamestown and Beverly DeGolier of Florida. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence R. Locey; five brothers: Donald, Gilbert, Kenneth, Leo and Rex Cave; and a sister, Jessie Dubert Atkins. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
