A lifelong resident of the Mayville area, he had formerly owned the Gravit Fruit Farm, Mayville, and had, for many years, been the owner of the Chautauqua Brand Vinegar Factory. Mr. Gravit was born Jan. 11, 1888, in Dewittville, the son of John and Jennie Hawley Gravit. He married the former Alice Ganey on March 1, 1936, in Erie, Pa. He was a 50 year member of Peacock Lodge 696, F and A M. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen Bull, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Mrs. Dorothy Moore, Sherman; four granddaughters, Mrs. Betsy Bowers, Mrs. Toni Stoker, Mrs. Becky Frelich and Mrs. Dana Snow; 13 great-grandchildrren; and a brother, Claire Gravit, Bemus Point. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery. Lee Gravit's mother - Jennie (Hawley) Gravet was born Feb. 10, 1863 at French Creek. She died Sept. 1942 at her home after an illness of several months. She is buried in the Dewittville Cemetery.She had a brother William Hawley in 1942 of Dewittville. Lee's brother - Claire Gravit was born Dec. 5, 1898 at Dewittville. He died Jan. 13, 1977 WCA Hospital. He is buried in the Dewittville Cemetery.
