She was the wife of Albert J. Cross. Mrs. Cross was correspondent in the Dewittville area for The Post-Journal and previously for the Jamestown Morning Post from 1915 and also the Grape Belt of Dunkirk. She was born April 9, 1885, in Dewittville, the daughter of James and Lillian Pickitt Alden and had resided here all her life. Mrs. Cross was graduated from Sinclairville High School and Jamestown Business College. She was employed at the Thomas Indian School of Iroquois as head stenographer and bookkeeper for nine years before her marriage. She was married to Mr. Cross Dec. 8, 1915 in Buffalo. She was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church of Denton Corners; Dewittville Grange which she served as secretary at the time of her death; Friendly Club of North Ellery-Denton and was active many years in the Dramatic Club. Mrs. Cross worked as a practical nurse for many years. She took an active part in community affairs and had a wide circle of friends. She was always willing to give a helping hand to her family, friends and neighbors. Besides her husband, she is survived by three dauthers, Mrs. Eleanor Martin, Jamestown; Miss Adelaide Cross, Dewittville; and Mrs. George Van Atter, Mayville; one son, Lyle Cross, Dewittville; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson and one sister, Mrs. Alma A. Harvey. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery.
