Glenn D. Hughes, 81, of Heritage Village, Gerry, formerly of N. Chili, N.Y., and Lakeland, Fla., died Thursday (July 5, 2001) in WCA Hospital. He was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Fairchance, Pa., the son of the late James and Elsie Kuhns Hughes. A 1937 graduate of Fairchance High School, he was also a 1940 graduate of Chesbro Seminary with associate degrees in liberal arts and theology. He served as a minister in the Free Methodist Church for 47 years as a pastor in the Pittsburgh, Genesee and Florida conferences of the Free Methodist Church. and serving Pierce Memorial Free Methodist Church in N. Chili, Jamestown Free Methodist Church, Light and Life Free Methodist Church in Lakeland, St. Petersburg Free Methodist Church and was involved in several church plantings, including Washington, Pa. From 1957 to 1960 he served the Gerry Homes in public relations and editing. He also served at Roberts Weslyan Collage as a chaplin to married couples and as an assistant ! in the college library. As a member of the Florida Conference, he served as president of the Board of Ministerial Education and Guidance and had also served as Conference Director of Christian Education and Conferance Secretary. He retired to Heritage Village in 1992. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Ida J. Smith Hughes, whom he married Nov. 8, 1940; a son, Donald R. Hughes of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Nancy L. Nasso of N. Chili; a foster son, Wayne Davidson of Lakeland, Fla.; five grandchildren: Dona Rae Klingaman of Janesville, Wisc., Ginny Rae Joy of Seattle, Wash., Randy Nasso of N. Chili, Glenn Nasso and Daniel Nasso, both of Rochester; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters: LaVera Ansel of Fairchance, Pa., June Britton of Mobile, Ala., and Lois Link of Lutz, Fla. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Hughes; and three sisters: Leona Bortner, Esther Campbell and Mildred Swaney. Burial will be in Gerry Cemetery.
