Sample, 92, of Heritage Park Health Care Center, formerly of 4726 Chautauqua Ave., Maple Springs, died at 4:50 p.m. Monday (Aug. 22, 2005) in WCA Hospital. She was born March 14, 1913, in Jamestown, the daughter of Charles and Elva Gates Lindsey. She was a graduate of Bemus Point High School. She was a well known piano player and her husband was caller for many years at various square dances in the area. She was an avid reader and continued to enjoy literature after going blind through the efforts of the Chautauqua County Blind Association's books on tape. She is survived by a son, Herbert Sample of Jamestown; a daughter, Lona Howard of Stockton; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Enid Beadle of Westfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark T. Sample, whom she married July 31, 1932, and who died April 28, 1997; a daughter, Eldora Bowen; and a sister, Franka Anderson. Inurnment will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
