She was born July 31, 1915, in Shelby, N.Y., a daughter of the late Charles A. and Wilhelmina Greier Haak. A graduate of Buffalo University, Harriett was a secretary for her father, who started the first Medina Parts NAPA Company in Orleans County. She was also employed by Chautauqua County as a clerk in the records department. She and her husband, Frank, owned a 350-acre Ayrshire dairy, fruit, and grain farm. As a homemaker, she opened her farmhouse as a tourist home for the returning WWII soldiers. She and her husband were also the trustees for the Gaines One Room School House in Gaines, N.Y., for a number of years. She had been a member of Westfield First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Harriett was also an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Women’s Organization. Of great importance to ! her was the promotion of women’s education and tutoring the neighborhood children. Surviving are three daughters: Brenda B. Wilson of Bemus Point, Marcia B. Cochrane of Westfield and Deborah B. Chagnon of Westfield; eight grandchildren: Timothy R. Wilson, DDS of Tucson, Ariz., Daniel B. Wilson of Fort Myers, Fla., Michael A. Wilson of Bemus Point, Kimberly R. Cochrane of Crofton, Md., Alexander J. Cochrane of Westfield, Jennifer L. Cochrane of Westfield, Heather Chagnon Gruenbaum of Irvine, Calif., and Roger G. Chagnon III of Westfield; and two sisters: Helen Ehrbright of Altoona, Fla., and Marian Boyle of Medina, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Bowen, who died in 1968, and a sister, Marguerite Mancuso. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the Barber Funeral Home, 52 S. Portage St., Westfield. The Rev. David McCabe will officiate. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery, Westfield.
