A lifelong area resident, he was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Jamestown, the son of Thomas and Josephine Fashano Giambra. He was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. On June 6, 1944, he landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy with the 1st infanty division and was awared the Purple Heart, the Normandy Medal and the New York State Conspicuous Service Medal. Since 1975, he owned and operated Josef's Jewelers in Jamestown. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Messina Giambra, whom he married Oct. 11, 1941, in Falconer; four children: Patricia, Thomas, Sandra and Joette, all of Jamestown; six grandchildren: Thomas Giambra Jr. of Phoenix, Timothy Giambra of Morrisville, N.C., Trisha Giambra of Boise, Idaho, Jeremy Callinan of Custer City, Pa., Julie Giambra and Joshua Melquist, both of Jamestown; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Giambra of Jamestown; and a sister, Mary Meserve of Lacy, Wash. Besides his parents, he was! preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Leone. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
