Surnames: VanRensselaer Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SRB.2ACE/11708 Message Board Post: FORESTVILLE - Clyde Elton VanRensselaer, 86, of 16 Pearl St., died Sunday evening (April 17, 2005) in Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born June 15, 1918 in Gerry, the son of Richard L. and Mary L. (Abbey) VanRensselaer. An area resident all his life, he was a 1938 graduate of Forestville High School and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he served from 1944-46. He retired after 28 years as Postmaster in Forestville, where he served from 1953-81. He was also a co-owner in the Twinbrook Dairy Farm in Forestville and had worked for Bell Aircraft from 1940-44. He was a 75-year member of the Forestville United Methodist Church where he faithfully attended and provided tireless and continued support as trustee, usher and bell ringer for more than 20 years. He was past commander, chaplain and service officer of the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post 953. He was also past President of the Chautauqua County Post Masters Association, past Director of the Lake Shore Hospital Association and former member of the IOOF and the Silver Creek Lions Club. He will be remembered for his love of Forestville, his lifelong home and the community where he served as Postmaster Mr. VanRensselaer is survived by his wife, Irene B. Wilks VanRensselaer, whom he married Sept. 28, 1940 in the Forestville United Methodist Church; his three sons, David, Richard and Robert VanRensselaer, all of Forestville; and his five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Milton, Nelson and Howard Gage VanRensselaer; and his three sisters, Elva Homan, Leah Fornell and Helen Cross
