Hedstrom, 89, of 2302 Fox Road, Panama, died at 1:42 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2005, in the Heritage Green Health Care Center, Greenhurst. An area resident since 1934, she was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Lockport, the daughter of William E. and Mabel Miller Culverwell. She was a 1934 graduate of Newfane High School. A member of the Bible Methodist Church in Alabama, locally she attended the Ashville Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church and was a member of the Chautauqua County Bible Club. Gertrude will always be remembered for her sweet and gentle spirit, her special gift of hospitality, and ability to provide luscious meals with homemade pies, sweet rolls, and Swedish dishes such as sill and korv. She enjoyed sharing her special dishes with everyone. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Reed of Panama; two sons, Rev. Walter Hedstrom of Pell City, Ala., and Alvin Hedstrom, Jr. of Wheatland, Wyo.; nine grandchildren: Steven Hedstrom of Salem, Ohio, Daniel Hedstrom of Cleveland, Naomi Hedstrom of Jackson, Mich., James Hedstrom of Wheatland, Timothy Reed of Panama, Joseph Hedstrom of Pell City, Benjamin Hedstrom of Salem, Ala., Martha Hedstrom of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Philip Hedstrom of Knoxville, Tenn.; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Miller Culverwell of Newfane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin E. Hedstrom Sr., whom she married Jan. 11, 1942, and who died Aug. 223, 1992; and three brothers: Clifford, Maurice and Edgar Culverwell. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
