"Pappy" Okerlund, 83, of Heritage Village Health Care Center, Gerry, formerly of Sinclairville, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) in the facility. He was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Red House, N.Y., the son of George and Karen Bergstrom Okerlund. A Chautauqua County resident most of his life, he attended Jamestown schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He served in the European Theater and was awarded a Bronze Star. He owned and operated Sinclairville Motors from 1945 until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed collecting gems and lapidary work. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dora M. Ferguson Okerlund, whom he married Sept. 21, 1942; a son Johnny L. Okerlund of Sinclairville; two daughters: Darla J. Frost of Sinclairville and Karen E. Wilcox of Cummings, Ga.; seven grandchildren: Dora Waite of Warner Robins, Ga., Denise Curtis of Cummings, Daniel Wilcox of San Antonio, Texas, Terry Okerlund Carlson of Jamestown, Danielle Frost of Henderson, Nev., and Timothy and Daryl Frost, both of Sinclairville; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Jerry, Alvin "Okie" and John "Ted" Okerlund; and three sisters: Eleonora Shick, Violet Cederquist and Lillian Oste. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
