Hale, 86, of 129 School Ave., WE, formerly of 545 Prospect St. began when he died at 9:10 a.m. on Monday October 24, 2005 in WCA Hospital. He was fair, loving and courageous until the end. A native of Jamestown he was born August 2, 1919 the son of Orin J. and Cora Colcord Hale. Mr. Hale began his career with the Jamestown Police Department in January 1946, became a lieutenant in February 1955 and retired on June 6, 1975. He and Chief John Paladino developed with the WJTN Radio the quote “You are responsible for X number of days without a traffic fatality in Jamestown, please drive and walk carefully." Following his retirement he was employed in security at Blackstone Corp. for 9 years. Mr. Hale attended the Jamestown High School, Frewsburg Central School and Bemus Point School. He served in the US Army during World War II from 1937 until his discharge in 1940 with the 15th Coastal Artillery in Hawaii and reenlisted February 3, 1941 and served with the military police in New York City which included escorts for dignitaries such as Eleanor Roosevelt and transferred to the 317th Infantry in France, Germany and Austria before his discharge on December 13, 1945. He was a communicant of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a member of Fenton History Center, War Vets Recreation, AARP, Moose Lodge, John W. Tiffany Post #53 VFW and was a life member of Kendall Club. He loved gardening and fishing. Surviving are his wife Rose L. Gass Hale whom he married September 16, 1948; 2 sons: John F. Hale of Gerry and Robert D. Hale of Denver, CO; and a granddaughter Crista Hale of Denver. Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his father Orin in 1972, his mother Cora in 1973 and a sister Ruth E. Shepard on March 5, 1953. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
