I'm particularly interested in the marriage of Clara Montague to Dana P. Horton. I have been pursuing the Horton genealogy for my husband's family, and I have a probate document from Olmsted Co., MN which names Dana P. Horton legal guardian of Emery P. Horton. I have been trying to determine if Dana P. Horton is the child of Charles D. Horton and Charlotte Shepardson...there is a child named Daniel P. Horton in the household of Charles D. Horton in 1850 (town of Gerry). Is this Daniel really Dana? And there is a Thomas R. Horton residing with Reuben and Roxy Shepardson in 1850 (town of Gerry) so I'm wondering if Thomas is also the son of Charles D. Horton and Charlotte Shepardson. Was this Thomas R. Horton also known as Reuben (possibly his middle name...for his maternal grandfather Reuben Shepardson?). I also have a copy of a probate for Charles D. Horton, died 17 Nov. 1856, Olmsted Co., MN. I believe thi! s Charles, who was married to Philetta at the time of his death and father to her seven children, is the same man who fathered my husband's gr-gr grandfather Emery P. Horton. I believe Emery was born as a result of Charles' relationship with Margaret Love...yet Emery's name was omitted from the probate of Charles D. Horton. I have a guardianship document that names Dana P. Horton guardian of Emery P. Horton...is it possible that these two men are half-brothers? And Charles Horton fathered children with three different women? Charlotte Shepardson, Philetta (maiden name unknown), and Margaret Love? I would be more than happy to provide copies of these probate documents to anyone wishing to further the research of the Horton family in Chautauqua Co. It's one interesting puzzle! Lisa Hopp
