Weidenborner 93, of the Lake Shore Nursing Home died Wednesday (Aug. 17, 2005) in his residence. He was born Dec. 22, 1911, in Penfield, N.Y., son of the late Charles and Felicia (Stenner) Weidenborner. During his school years he was a four-sport athlete with a special love for football. He started a career with the New York State Police in 1936 as a motorcycle trooper. He took a leave of absence to serve in the Navy as a chief petty officer at Norfolk, Va., and also served as inspector of the Shore Patrol of the 13th Naval District in Seattle. On his return from the service, he became a corporal with the state police while in Franklinville. He was promoted to BCI sergeant in 1950 while at the old Silver Creek station. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1955, lieutenant supervisor in 1962 and captain in 1963 while in Batavia. The veteran law enforcement officer known throughout the state for his crime-fighting abilities participated in the Appalachain Raid. He was in charge of Troop C Station at Sidney and directed Sgt. Edward Croswell in the roundup of underworld figures in the convention of 1957 at Joe Barbara's Appalachain Estate. The following spring, Gov. Harriman sent L! t. Weidenborner to Kingston to reorganize the crime-ridden city's police department. After retirement, he was the head of security at the State University of New York at Fredonia until 1982. Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Cardoza of Naples, Fla.; a companion, Arletta Geitner of Silver Creek; one brother, Edward Weidenborner; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. PJ obit
